Actonhorse 26 #1 Posted October 17, 2013 I have a 1976 B-60 with the recoil start/mag ignition Kohler K161 on it. I have been having problems with it for a while now where it quits running when it is warm. I have narrowed down the problem to the coil. I believe it gets weak when it gets hot and just looses power. (it has to be the coil - I have replaced everything else!) I understand that the coil is nla from Toro. It is spec # K161T-281269J I have researched on line and come up with part # 47 755 20S as the replacement. Can anyone tell me if that is the correct coil? Also I have read that Napa 7-01612 can be used as a replacement for this coil. Can anyone confirm that this works? Thanks in advance for any help/advice. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #2 Posted October 17, 2013 The 47 755 20S looks correct. The Napa 7-01612 replaces Tecumseh 30560A. It may work on the Kohler also - don't know. Garry
sorekiwi 761 #3 Posted October 18, 2013 Not sure if this is the same coil or not - but this thread may be of some help?
WH nut 553 #4 Posted October 18, 2013 Have you replaced the condenser?
Actonhorse 26 #5 Posted October 18, 2013 Thanks Garry. It looks like the same coil and for $24.00 I ordered one and will try it and let you all know if it works or not. Mike: I did see that thread but that is a different set up. The magnets on mine are on the flywheel so that coil is different. WH nut: Yes, I did replace the condensor, points (kohler) and plug, I re-routed the fuel lines because I thought they were overheating and creating vapour lock, I checked the fuel pump and it has lots of flow, I cleaned the carb and even put it on my B-80 for a week and it ran perfect. When the B-60 shuts down it just has a very weak spark and once it cools off it has a nice strong spark again so I am almost positive it is the coil. Who knows... i've been wrong before. I'll update once I get the coil on and let you all know how it is working.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #6 Posted October 19, 2013 Napa shows another magneto coil for the K161. Their number is 7-01628 and Kohler number is 220435-S. A Stens replacement is 460-071.
