kaiser 100 #1 Posted October 13, 2013 I was just doing some simple chores when my gt1600 just stopped. Engine at wot, 2nd gear, cruising alone towing a trailer full of brush. Nothing too tough. Couldn't really see anything wrong, belts good rear trans pulley turning. That's when I thought something let go in the gearbox. So I shut it down, got some help and pushed it up hill back to the garage. I took the seat and rear fender off to get a good look, other then needing a new shifter boot all looked good. I was just about ready to take the trans out when I thought to double check the shifter. No matter what I did it didn't seem to go into gear, even though it felt like it did, so I wiggled the hi/lo range selector....son of a gun...it wasn't engaged. Long story short, my son must have kicked it loose when he was riding in my lap. It looked liked it was in high, but it wasn't. Man, I almost took the rear end apart over nothing! Docwheelhorse 2,740 #5 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) Try this one on...... I picked up my son years ago at daycare. Dropped my Silverado into gear and it went 100' and all I had was neutral. No matter what gear or what RPM I had nothing..... WTF???? I blew the trans???? That was my thought.... I put it in park and it still rolled too???? I was perplexed..... stabbed the parking brake and called a tow truck. Had truck towed to shop and told them the story. Next day the guy calls laughing his butt off and says---hey dummy, somebody kicked the transfer case lever into neutral!!! Only cost me the tow job and a 30 pack to the shop.... Yes it was MY SONS fault!!! Tony Edited October 14, 2013 by Docwheelhorse
kaiser 100 #7 Posted October 14, 2013 lol, yup new shifter boot is in the works. i'm just really happy that it's fine. i was prepared to pretty much tear it down and restore it correctly, but now i get to finish the season with it and maybe even next season before i tear into it. it really runs great, even though the twin briggs is a thirsty beast.
