Charlie Smith 142 #1 Posted October 13, 2013 Hello everyone, Yet again, another question for you all, some may be able to help, I am currently looking for some new front tyres for my horse, I am hoping to get some ribed tyres, like those in the picture I'm attaching, however the only horse I have seen them on is Chris's Just 'shakin' I have sent him a PM asking as well, but was wondering if any of you here know where or of a website I can get them from here in the UK. Many thanks
Robins 26 #2 Posted October 13, 2013 Hi Charlie, I to am after a pair of these for my horse aswell All terain tyres sell them, under the title of 'three rib tyres'. Unfortunately only available over here as a 4.00 wide but look good anyway so im told http://www.allterraintyres.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1087_1242_1248&products_id=5034 Hope this helps. cheers, Daniel
Charlie Smith 142 #3 Posted October 13, 2013 So, 4.00-8 I'm not very good at understanding tyre measurements etc, so would they fit my wheel horse front tyres that are 16 x 5.50 x
Robins 26 #4 Posted October 13, 2013 Basically, 16 x 5.50 x 8 tyre marking means you have a 16" overall tyre diameter, 5.5" wide, and fits a 8" diameter wheel. A 4.00-8 tyre marking means you have a 4" wide, 4" high side walls, and fits a 8" diameter wheel. So with 4" side walls and 8" rim the maths is 4 + 8 + 4 = 16. So you still have a 16" overall diameter tyre Simply the overall height will be the same as you have already, they will fit your rims, but will be 1.5" narrower but will easily blow out to the rim and look the part Heres a pic i found on the forum aparently with 4.0 tyres on 5.5 wide rims
Robins 26 #5 Posted October 13, 2013 Just found this on google, They are both 4.00-8 three rib tyres, one on a wide rim one on a narrow rim. Also Anglo traction's thread c-120/raider update has some three ribs, not sure on the rim width though.
meadowfield 2,735 #6 Posted October 13, 2013 Charlie, you need commando 8 wheels which are narrower in order to fit the 4 inch wide tyres. Chris buys his from all terrain, I think Richard also got his from there too....
Charlie Smith 142 #7 Posted October 13, 2013 Mark, Is having the commando 8 wheels a must? So will these not fit my rims, which at the moment have 16x5.50x8? http://www.allterraintyres.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1087_1242_1248&products_id=5034 So would it be a waste of money buying these ribbed tyres for my horse? meadowfield 2,735 #8 Posted October 13, 2013 Oops, same thing!!! You already have the narrow rims, the 4.00's should fit those fine. I'll let Chris and Richard chime in first though :D
Charlie Smith 142 #9 Posted October 13, 2013 Ahh fewww! I thought I had the narrow or narrow 'ish' rims already, and yes before I go ahead and buy them, Im going to wait for an opinion from Chris and Richard seeing they have both brought these tyres before, Thanks, -Charlie
Anglo Traction 761 #10 Posted October 13, 2013 (edited) Not sure about the 4.00 x 4 - 8" 3 ribs on 5.5" wide Rims. I wonder if they're too wide. It would certainly reduce the overall tyre diameter and may look a bit odd . Looking at the pic of a Tyre on the wide Rim, you may get away with it. Don't think they make Tri Ribs any wider than 4.00 for an 8" rim diameter ?. It took me a while to find/modify some narrow Rims and they measure 3.75" between the Bead Seats.......still a bit wide for 4.00 x 8" s, but look ok and very little Side Wall distortion. I bought my Tyres from Malpasonline - http://www.malpasonline.co.uk/itm/Tractor-Tyres/Tyre-400-8-4pr-3-rib/78905#sthash.d07ZU8zL.dpbs They are on offer again. Made in Vietnam with the name 'Commander' on them. Had the 'Moulding Sprues' to trim off, but good for the price I paid 18 months ago. Sent the Tubes back as too small for my liking.....Got those eventually from 'Allterrain' 5.00 x 8...not cheap , but very good Heavy duty quality and for my peace of mind, are a much better fit with no Valve strain. This Post may also help- To be honest Charlie, I would search for narrower Front Rims before you buy. You're bound to have more luck than I. Then again, if you're determined to get some eventually, you can get them while they are cheap (on offer)?. Hope the Links work. Regards.
