257h mower deck

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, new to this forum stuff. Hope I'm in the right spot. I have a 257h with a 42" SD mower deck and was wanting to add a bagger to it. I don't think this model came with one. My dad and I bought the 257h and a 252h at the same time and I have the 252h with a 37" deck and bagger. Does anybody know for sure if there is a bagger for the 257h?

In 1988 there was a 07-07BK01 7 cu. ft. Twin Rear Bagger for the 05-37SKxx 37" side discharge mower.

In 1989 there was a 07-08BK01 8 Cu. Ft. Easy Twin Bagger for the 05-37SKxx 37" side discharge mower.

Found that here

by doing a search for 257-H.

Short answer, no.

Long answer, maybe.

The 42" deck for these tractors is the same shell and design as the horizontal shaft tractors but the hangers and pullies are different.  What that means is this, those decks were never really designed to be used with baggers, they simply do not create enough air movement to shoot it up the tube.  The 37" deck was designed to be a bagging deck and does create enough airflow for this with the high lift blades.  Now Wheel Horse did make baggers for the 42" and 48" decks but they had to have a powered blower system added in between the bag and the deck.

There were two ways to do this.

1. WH made a blower that bolts to the discharge of the deck and is driven off of the right most pulley by replacing the pulley with a double shiv similar to the center shiv.  However these units are a bit rare and hard to find and I do not know if they will work 100% with your deck.  Some modification may be needed.

2. Pull behind bagger carts with an engine driven blower are available from several manufacturers.  These have a small gasoline engine powered blower and a long tube to connect the cart to your deck.  The big disadvantage to this setup is you have a cart to deal with and a second motor to feed and maintain.

Thanks guys! I was thinking the same thing but was hoping for the best. I have a trail behind machine and will have to settle for that. Thanks again!
