Hammerhead 817 #1 Posted October 2, 2013 There has been a descent looking 1962 Model 552 on my local Craigslist now for a couple of weeks. I called the fella and it turns out he has had it in his family since it was new! It even came with the hard to find original 1962 Snow Plow! You don't see these very often. He scrapped the mower deck years ago. He had a price of $300 on it or trade. I asked what he wanted to for a trade and he said tools or guns. I have plenty of extra tools laying about so I offered him some carpentry tools, a new Craftsman lazer guided circular saw, a jig saw and a few hand tools that were new too. He said he would go for that deal since he buys and sells stuff all the time! I brought him the tools yesterday and he said that was ok with him. He brought out a bucket with the WH tire chains in it and asked if I wanted this stuff too? Uhhhh, yes I do! So we loaded up my new Horse and I took off down the road! It is in good shape but has a few issues. The gas tank has been cut up and another tank mounted inside of it. The hood was cracked quite abit. The front tires were junk but the rims were good. I put this spare set of 1045 tires on it just to roll it into the mighty van. I found the original 2 prong key laying in the tool box along with a nice steering wheel center cap and the parking brake handle! I'll clean this up over the next few days and keep it in original condition as always....

Kelly 1,033 #6 Posted October 3, 2013 You may find the cut up gas tank is a factory repair tank for the 2 piece leaker tanks, even though the 552 should have a one piece tank.

Hammerhead 817 #8 Posted October 3, 2013 Thanks alot guys for all of your comments. Update on the clean up and this strange gas tank repair job. I did some paint restoration on most of this tractor and it looks alot better now! There was some red paint under all that rust. This has the one piece gas tank on it. But it does have a rather odd repair job on it. It is done very well and looks to be a factory job, but I don't know. There was a lot of cutting on the aluminum tank, but they did a good job of it. Thanks Garry for the cool manual on the 2 piece tank repair. Never saw one of those before!
