Kennedy 136 #1 Posted October 2, 2013 I currentlly do not have any wheel horses nor have had. I am looking at a C160 with a recently rebuilt 16hp and 42" mower deck for $450 and also a 312-8 that has been frame up repainted with 42" mower deck, tiller (also repainted) and snowblower (good condition) for $1200. Are these good prices? The c160 is in pretty good shape also. Thanks Mark
Foozerush 40 #2 Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) Welcome to RS!! The 160 sounds right, the 312 seems a lil high, sight unseen. If it was my choice, I would spend the coin on the 312, wheel n deal the package deal... Boom you have an all-season working machine with plenty of HP to run those attachments. Depending on what your needs for a tractor are, the 160 is a beast, 16hp Kohler will deliver plenty power, plus you said rebuilt is a bonus in my book. Keep us updated on the one you buy... Also this is the place for any help you need for a wheel horse, questions, finding parts, looking at pics ( yes someone will ask you to post pics, we love seeing these machines!) and helping fixing a horse.... There are guys on here who know these better than the engineers that designed them. engine, trans, electrical, paint.... Ect.. Good day Gregg. Wheel-N-It 2,976 #3 Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) The price of the C160 sounds about right, but I will need some good pics of the 312 to ok the price of that one. Sounds like the price of the tractor alone is about $600-700. Edited October 2, 2013 by Wheel-N-It
AMC RULES 37,196 #4 Posted October 2, 2013 Go and haggle for the 160.
Kennedy 136 #6 Posted October 3, 2013 I would be happy to post some pictures if I knew how. Can I post them on the gallery here and pull them off that? Thanks for the replies also. Mark
Kennedy 136 #7 Posted October 3, 2013 The first pic is the c160 the second with the tiller is the 312-8. I really don't need the snowblower of the 312-8 but I really want a tiller. There is a tiller for a c series near me for $90 but no picture in the add. It also says no attach-o-matic or belts included. Does the attachment need an attach-o-matic or just the tractor? Thanks for the welcomes to the sight also
WH nut 553 #8 Posted October 3, 2013 The tiller alone, you will need the axle bracket to mount to tractor. the midmount idler and belt. The then tractor needs the lift cable. All the extras could cost another 300 bucks.
Kennedy 136 #9 Posted October 3, 2013 Thanks wh nut.
Callen 64 #10 Posted October 3, 2013 I would get the 160, pick up a tiller later. You will always find something on down the road that you want the extra HP for.
Kennedy 136 #11 Posted October 4, 2013 Callen I am leaning that way. I like the idea of the recent rebuild on 160 also. So what is a good price on a tiller? I am out of town now for a week so I haven't had a chance to go look at either one yet.
Wheel-N-It 2,976 #12 Posted October 4, 2013 good price for a used tiller with all the mounting and drive parts included is about $300. I bought a new one from my dealer in 1991 and paid $900 for it then.
whc160 80 #13 Posted October 5, 2013 from another Buckeye! The C-160 is a great tractor. They have good HP and don't drink alot of gas. If it were me I would score the C-160 first. The price is not bad. I had just over $800 in rebuilding my dad's K341 two years ago. Then call the guy with the tiller and see if he will sell it separate. It will hook right up to the C-160. Just make sure you get everything that goes with the tiller. If you have a good sized garden you will love the tiller.
RMCIII 838 #14 Posted October 5, 2013 Have no input, just looking at your member number vs. mine. I have not even been a member for a full year, and my member number is 10355. Ken's is 11751. whc160 80 #16 Posted October 7, 2013 If you are down this way next Mother's Day we have a garden tractor show right here is Sugarcreek that Saturday. Also it is community garage sales that weekend if the wife is into that kind if thing. I have helped with the show the last couple of years. It is a good time to check out things and talk tractors. There are always some attachments for sale in the swap meet part.
Kennedy 136 #17 Posted October 21, 2013 Sorry did not mean to disappear. Just a little update I missed out on both of the tractors. I went and looked at 2 different ones today. A 1996 314-8 with 690 hours and a 1986 312-8 with 440 hours. What kind of hours can one expect to get out of these motors? Whc160 The wifes not so into garage sales but I am, I will have to check that out. Thanks Mark
