farmer 1,078 #1 Posted September 27, 2013 I was wondering if it was possible for a member or moderator to set up a poll to find RS's favourite hood/bonnet design covering all the production years. Here's what I was thinking, members post in their examples on one thread, when the 'folks in the know' think all the models have been covered someone with the 'clicknology' could number them and set up a Poll on another post which we could then vote on. It would be interesting to see all the different designs (how many?) to show how evolved and to find out which one RS likes the most. If this is achievable can I suggest we stick to design and to hardware only (not get into decals). Also clear pictures taken from the same perspective would make comparisons easier. This could be fun and educational as well. I've posted this as a possible example for the 300/400/500 line, I think the only other variation would be the 520 with the louvered top ? There would defiantly be models that I wouldn't vote for, but picking one....... would be tough.
546cowboy 301 #2 Posted September 27, 2013 My favorite is any older Wheel Horse but I seem to lean toward the 70's C series hood the best because it looks the most like a real tractor.
Wishin4a416 2,191 #3 Posted September 27, 2013 (edited) I must admit I like the Burgundy Stripes the best. Edited September 27, 2013 by Wishin4a416
AMC RULES 37,153 #4 Posted September 27, 2013 (edited) I must admit I'm kinda partial to the louvered version of the round hood models. Edited September 28, 2013 by AMC RULES
Wheel-N-It 2,971 #5 Posted September 27, 2013 I just lean toward any tractor that says "Wheel Horse" on it somewhere
Jake Kuhn 1,579 #6 Posted September 28, 2013 I'll have to get a picture. But I love the smooth early rj hoods without wheel horse on them
JackC 617 #7 Posted September 28, 2013 Any wheel horse hood is appealing to me especially the maroon stripe 500 series hoods. I would have to say from my point of view Wheel Horse had better looking hoods than the Cub Cadets. Cub Cadets are great machines but their hoods look a little weird to me. This hood looks like a big nose to me. The 520H hood with engine exposed has a lot more sex appeal to me.
Trouty56 567 #8 Posted September 28, 2013 (edited) I like the late 60's era Charger/Raider hoods with the vertical center piece....narrow at the base makes the front stance look wider.... Don't know why this pic looks stretched.... Edited September 28, 2013 by Trouty56
Ed Kennell 40,822 #9 Posted September 28, 2013 CCCCCCC'SSSSSSSSS get my vote.
Anglo Traction 761 #10 Posted September 28, 2013 Cs of the 70s Long Hoods have a look that seems to work so well in proportion And so not to appear biased, I also think that all series suit their own era designs and as I don't have one of each era, I say the CCCCCCs have it.
bean 85 #11 Posted September 28, 2013 (edited) all the mid 70s b & c tractors. the best being the 73s, with the square 90* hoods you might think I'm crazy, but my all-time favorite wheel horse hood/stance is the much maligned 1973 lawn ranger Edited September 28, 2013 by bean
baerpath 517 #12 Posted September 28, 2013 This is my fav hood style Farmer There is the 300 series louvered hood also
sorekiwi 761 #13 Posted September 28, 2013 Nah, gotta be the early square hoods: As for the 3/4/500 Series hoods, they look better with the little dashboard sticking up at the rear (516, 518, 520).
Tankman 3,520 #14 Posted September 28, 2013 I like all the WH hoods but, the black doesn't appeal to me at all. My oldest (presently), Grandsons and I prefer the '68 and '73 "No Name" styling. The '68 Raider 12 is a favorite! Boys love the muffler stack. Duh!
Tankman 3,520 #15 Posted September 28, 2013 I must admit I like the Burgundy Stripes the best. post-8484-0-81950200-1376240947.jpg Agreed. New decals from http://www.redoyourhorse.com look great! One Horse needs one!
Jeff-C175 7,206 #16 Posted September 28, 2013 I only own one... a blackhood... what I like about it is that I can throw a piece of plywood on top and it makes a dandy temporary work table! SACRILEGE!
Wheel Horse Kid 105 #17 Posted September 28, 2013 I like the later RJ and Suburban hoods that say Wheel Horse on them and do not have slots in the grill. I realize the RJ and Suburban hood design is a little different from each other and I guess I would have to say I like the styling of the later RJ better than the Suburban. Sorry, but don't have a pic of either of those handy. Will try and get one a little later on.
Uncle Buck 246 #18 Posted September 28, 2013 My favorites are anything with a round nose hood design, closely followed by the earlier square hoods that followed the round nose models.

squonk 42,855 #20 Posted September 28, 2013 Grew up with the slotted Round Nose hood: Fell in love with the classic C series: Never cared for the Black Hood line until I did this:

JackC 617 #23 Posted September 30, 2013 One of my black hoods with a bad azz black engine under it. This one has 278 hours on it. It lives in a storage box because I have other black hood workers. One of my black hood workers with a grey Series II replacement engine waiting for a black flywheel cover.
boovuc 1,090 #24 Posted September 30, 2013 I vote on the 1960's square hoods.
SousaKerry 502 #25 Posted September 30, 2013 Black hoods all the way!!! 300/400/500 in my opinion were always the ugly duckling. Early C series overrated just too many of them Roundies are awesome I really love my Lawn Ranger but only a close second to Blackhoods early square hoods are cool before they put the lights in them
