battery charger recommendations and ?

Saw a couple of posts about renewing old batteries with some of these "newer" battery chargers so I was wondering what some of you might recommend if you were going to get another one.  I have an Allstate model from the 50's that my mother bought for my father (with S&H green stamps) and while it still works, it's real basic as there's a toggle swith to go from 6V to 12V and a analog meter to show the amount of charge.  I can make it pulse by turning off the breaker for the garage but I don't think that's the kind of pulsing that would help the lead plates.

 

 

As for the ?, I downloaded the Demystification Guide for our tractors but I don't see a listing for the 418-A model so what's the next best model to use for a reference as I believe mine was made in either 1986 or 1987.
