314-8 to Front of the Line - Deck Hitting Rear Tire???

Recommended Posts

Pulled out the 314-8 for a little mowing/seat time yesterday. Tractor has a 36 inch RD deck and laid down a perfect cut - but...

I was backing over a high spot with the deck turned off and heard a little banging noise and noticed the deck was bumping the rear tire.

I've had this happen with my 42 inch RD deck, but the tires were ag tires that for whatever reason seemed to go soft and loose their ability to hold their shape flat across the face if the tire - effectively making the tire larger in diameter and hitting the deck.  This tractor has a good set of turf tires on it and I think the tire shape is OK.

Question is - anyone had the rear lip of their deck contact the rear tires and if so, how did you cure the problem?

Thanks!

Bill

Areyou sure the deck is mounted correctly?  If correct, it should not move fore / aft at all. If incorrect, it MAY slop around enough to bump a rear tire.  Did you, or someone, put over-size gauge wheels on the deck...that could do it too.  Inasmuch as you get the same with the 42" deck, I have to wonder if you are hanging the deck onto the tractor correctly.  Neither deck should move for/aft at all.  MAYBE you have some extremely worn support hardware on the deck that allows it to flop around a lot.

Never used a 42" RD deck before Bill but I'm glad you mentioned this problem here. I bought one this past Winter and plan to use it for leaf mulching in the Fall.

I had that problem with my 42 side discharge. My fault. I took the chute off and the deck flared on the chute side over time from no support. That and the Misses driving in Brail and hitting things on that side. But a RD shouldnt have the collapsing effect. Maybe some wear and play in the hanging brackets.

I'll re-check, but pretty sure the deck is on correctly.
