Hodge71 665 #1 Posted September 11, 2013 I'm thinking about buying one to check the RPM's on my small engines. Just wondering if anyone has had good luck with them. I was also thinking about noncontact laser tachs. Not sure how it would work though using the flywheel grass screen as the measuring surface.
pacer 3,177 #2 Posted September 11, 2013 Not familiar with the Vibratach, but have been using one of the cheap laser tachs for several yrs now - if you can stick a little piece of the reflective tape to the surface then itll read it, so would think a piece would stick to the screen. Ive measured rpm on some pretty weird set ups. Ive checked it against my mill and lathes rpm charts and its alway very close. Pretty neat gadget ... and you cant beat the price! skrusins 128 #3 Posted September 12, 2013 When I had my shop that is all I use, its unbelievably accurate. I even tested it on cars that had built in tachs, and came out exactly right.
sorekiwi 761 #4 Posted September 12, 2013 I have one, it is accurate. An easy test is to put it on an electric motor (eg your bench grinder) and see what it tells you. Mine is spot on.
Jdslednut 1 #5 Posted September 12, 2013 We use ours at school all the time. Amazing how simply accurate that thing is. Just a wire and a dial. One engineer that should receive kudos.
