PTO lever spring

On my C-145 the spring popped off the PTO lever, the one that allows it to stay completely in the off position so the interlock switch isn't affected allowing the tractor to start. The push nut that holds it on is gone so I went to the hardware store and picked up a half inch push nut but I can't get it on. Is there some trick to getting the push nut to secrure the spring or do I need to find a bigger nut. I have fired that stupid spring aross my back yard one too many times trying to fix it.

Are you talking the spring that goes from the bail to the PTO rod down on the clutch?

if the push nut is the correct size.... i just find a sleeve or even a deep socket that will fit on the shoulder of the nut and tap it until the fingers inside the nut give a little and it goes on......

good luck getting it off again though......

 

i never bothered with the nut on my c125 as the angle of the spring doesnt lend itself to coming off..

Yeah I'm talking about the spring in the picture above. I'll try the deep socket method and see where that gets me. Thanks!

If it still wont stay on, just drill a hole in the bail and stick a cotter or roll in in it.

 Second that, drill hole, washer and cotter key/pin.
