Austin860 82 #1 Posted September 3, 2013 I'm wondering how well a d180 snowblower works. How much snow will it move? How far? Anything it does to the tractors steering? Thanks much, haven't gone it on the tractor yet, but hopefully soon.
Trouty56 567 #2 Posted September 3, 2013 Adds a lot of weight to the front....I use a weight barrel on the 3 point to lighten the steering up.....blows snow good and all over....without a cab be prepared to be a snowman....literally... Tough call....guess up north you use blowers more.....I have better luck with the dozer blade....pushes really good. Think I'll put the blade on this year and then switch if the weather prediction is more than 6 inches or something like that....or if I find no other place to push snow. Austin860 82 #3 Posted September 3, 2013 I have 100 pounds in the rears. No 3pt unfortunatly. And I would love to find some front weights somewhere ... But ya, I've hear I'll get snowy. Love to buy a can to...oh we'll haha. That's for the reply
tommyg 154 #4 Posted September 3, 2013 I have 125 lb wts on the rear wheels and chains. It's my normal winter set up, so I'm ready for the plow or blower. Not much difference in the steering that I notice, probably because I'm typically turning on snow. I suppose on dry pavement, though, it's a little heavy. Haven't had a REAL snow to test it out, but it certainly moved the 6" we had. Try to blow downwind or risk becoming a popsicle.
slufoot733 70 #5 Posted September 22, 2013 (edited) Here's a 1978 D-200 with snow thrower at work. When it's functioning properly it works great! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWCOC7mphWY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0bhdaxdiFo Additional traction weight is highly recommended. slufoot733 70 #7 Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) The trick to these SINGLE STAGE snow throwers is to not go too fast. They will clog up and that causes the belt and/or clutch to slip. When that happens you must stop, shut down the engine, and reach in the chut and clean it out. (NEVER REACH IN THERE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING!) Light, dry snow goes faster than heavy, wet snow. The machine will chew the snow but you must find the right speed. Run the engine at full throtle and move into the snow slowly. Gently increase your forward speed until it starts to bog down. Then back off just a little and you will be in business. I love clearing snow with mine. Just work with the wind so it won't blow back in your face. I wish I had a snow cab for my D. It would make life a little warmer. Edited November 12, 2013 by slufoot733
Austin860 82 #8 Posted November 13, 2013 Thanks you for the great advice! I've never blown snow before so it helps. I can't get it adjusted right so that the pto engages it and it's just annoying. The blower spins when I try to start it so I can't start it because it's bad to start and engine with that much load on it. I'm stumped and we got first snow today....maybe I'll have to put on the plow
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,493 #9 Posted November 13, 2013 Are you sure a bearing in the pto is not going bad? With the belt off it should spin real easy by hand if there is no brake on it. I don't know the D-Series. Garry

bitten 134 #11 Posted November 13, 2013 My D200 did the same thing when I got it. Had to rebuild the PTO.
Austin860 82 #12 Posted November 13, 2013 Ok. I rebuilt the pto as well. I guess I'll just have to find someone who knows how the heck to fix this. Haha Ok. I rebuilt the pto as well.
