Where would we all be if it weren't for the "BARN SALE"

Recommended Posts

jsp_333

Was trolling Kijiji this morning and had a "barn sale" come up in my daily wheel horse search

Tonight I brought home a  7-2521-9  Lawn Sweeper.

Naturally it was filthy and been left sitting idle in a barn for who knows how long.

It's missing the usual assortment of springs and bushings and who knows what else - but it's in my garage now.

At least it would be if it fit.

Bought my first Wheel Horse - a 414 8 - last October. Now I own a dozer blade, blower, rototiller,  sweeper and garden trailer.

I'm in deep.  Enjoy the photos

cheers,

john

I picked up a sweeper a couple of years back and really like it.  It looks exactly like yours but my seams had come unstiched (and shrank) on the material that loops over the frame and I had to use eyelets and string to reattach.  Yours looks in much better shape than mine but I figured for $10 with the name Wheel Horse on it - how could I go wrong!

I have lateral lines in the back yard so it gets regular use sweeping up the thick grass.

Enjoy the new tool.

I was going to write if you look closely you can see the duct tape.  Where the seams have come unstiched.  But I took the tape off the left side of the unit [pictured] but it's still on the right side.

Right where the side panel seams meets the back panel.  Thanks for the fix suggestion.  Anybody else have any improvised fixes for the material.   It's a tarp like material.

I can't imagine you could buy a new one now.

The 7-2521 was sold 1972-1974 and this one is a 1974 model. Would you mind posting the serial number?

Serial #  49533

It makes perfect sense to me that now that I've got a sweeper all I need is a rear discharge deck and the grass clippings etc. will go straight into the lawn sweeper.

I've found someone local[ish] to trade my 42" side discharge deck for the 42" rear discharge one.  [414-8]

a]  Anyone else with this set-up? [rear discharge mower deck/ lawn sweeper]

b]  Does it work?  Is this sheer brilliance or am I engineeringly challenged?

c] Mower belt - Do I keep mine or does the 42" rear discharge use a different length belt on a 400 series tractor?

I have a 36" rd deck so the sweeper is wider than the cut. For that reason I usually mow with a wider deck first on the thick areas and then hook up the sweeper and mow and sweep at the same time. It's so thick that the first cut is usually not very good anyway so the second cut and sweeping really cleans it up well.

It seems like the sweeper is a bit wider than 42" (like 48"??) but I haven't measured it. Even still, with a 42" RD and the sweeper in tow you ought to have a great combination. The only thing that may annoy you while mowing is the sweeper doing exactly what it is supposed to do...picking up lots of clippings. If your grass is thick you will need to stop and dump frequently!

Went out and took a measurement when I got home and mine isn't as wide as I thought - about 38". I don't see why the 42 RD won't work great.
