3 dif. styles of Mid Mount Idler Pulleys?

Recommended Posts

Ok I need someone that really knows there stuff for this Question. I have a 1996 314H and got a tiller but need the Mid Mount Idler. There is 3 different style Mid mount Idlers for it.  Will all 3 of these style idler pulleys work?  Im pretty sure they will but not 100% So I need you guys to help with this.   I would like to make my own since im a Machinist/Tool and Die maker by trade so I can make just about anything at the shop. So that being said  I would like to make the "Straight bar style idler" if it will work (#3 pic I posted)  Could someone help me out with this and tell me if all three of these idlers will work with my 1996 314H    Also if I use any of these three  will the 1/2 X 141" belt work or does one of them need the 1/2 x 139" belt

Now #1 will work for sure cuz its the one recommended for my tiller but will #2 and #3 work as well?  One the spring hooks up towards the back of tractor and the other "straight shaft one" hooks up in the hole towards the front.   I really want to use #3 cuz its easiest to make.   Thanks for your help and I appreciate all your help and posts on here guys  very much help you all are!     -RUSS

While I'm not a machinist, it was easy to fab one up using parts I had laying around. Most of the parts were from a mower deck.

Mine was for a GT-1142 with an old style tiller for a Charger. Ended up using a 139" belt.

Go for it and don't be scared!

#1 and #3 are the same thing.  #1 just has the bracket over the top for the shield.

#2 has a different spring location because the bracket is L-shaped instead of a straight arm.  The net effect is the same... no matter where the spring is, it has to pull the lever in the direction that forces the small idler down to tension the belt.
