whfan74 2,015 #102 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) It has been a very long time since I have updated this thread. I apologize for that. We are dead in the water right now due to the fact of not having a place to work. That will be changing soon I hope. As I have mentioned previously, our building is under way. I wish I had some good photos to share, but not yet. I do know that the walls are up and the trusses have been set. We are getting oh so close. The updates I have been receiving have been very exciting. I have learned that a hoist will be placed in the ceiling to help with removal of engines and for other various tasks. They are truly thinking of everything to make this a great place to work! Since time is going to be our enemy I made the executive decision to get this machine powder coated. After telling the story to our friend that powder coats our machines he agreed to give us a deal. On top of that he invited the club to come out and he will show them how to apply the powder and do it themselves! We will then push the rack in to the oven and in a short amount of time we will get to see the finished product. How cool is that?!?!?!? I am chomping at the bit to get cranking on this again! Hoping to update you all again soon! Edited January 22, 2014 by whfan74
whfan74 2,015 #103 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) Well with the lovely weather we are having here in Northern Indiana, school was closed. I heard that work was being done on the club barn and asked if I could come down to lend a hand. After taking care of some responsibilities around home I headed south to lend a hand. Here is where the building was as of yesterday afternoon. This building is 12x20 which will be perfect for the club. The steel roof is actually a chocolate brown and the trim is a tan. Here is a photo of the barn before the siding started to go on. Kind of cool to be building a barn inside of another barn! The guys started insulating yesterday and finished it up this morning. Once I arrived I helped put the last piece of plywood on the walls. You can see from this picture that the walls are done as well as the electric. The outlet receptacles need to be placed, breaker box hooked up and mounted as well as the ballast for the lights. The grand kids of the builder are going to paint the walls white and the floor will be painted grey. If you look at the ceiling you will notice that an I-beam has been placed which will support a hoist to help with those heavy jobs. After working for quite some time I was able to help put the metal siding and securing it to both sides. Here is what it looks like when I left. It is really taking shape and is simply amazing! Both ends need to be sided and the garage door needs to be placed along with the other things that I already mentioned. I need to get the heater down to them so that it can be mounted and ready. I am very grateful for this gift and pleased that I had the opportunity to lend a hand! Edited January 25, 2014 by whfan74
AMC RULES 36,945 #104 Posted January 25, 2014 Is that maroon siding I see being applied there Scott? just needs some silver and orange pinstriping now, maybe some louvers in the door to complete the look.

whfan74 2,015 #106 Posted February 7, 2014 Well not much of an update to give but here we go........... I can honestly say that we have missed more school the past month than we have been here at school. North Central Indiana is having quite the nasty weather like so many of you are also enjoying. With all of the cancellations we are still hibernating and chomping at the bit to get the ball rolling again. This past Wednesday we planned to meet to work on a special project in the computer lab but unfortunately school was cancelled that day. We are planning to try and meet up this coming Wednesday and see what we can get accomplished. We have caught wind of a very special essay contest involving a B-80 tractor. The kids are going to work on a submission in hopes they can win in order to provide a machine for the club for next school year. The barn is almost complete. I have not had the chance to make it back down to see the progress or lend a hand lately but from what I am hearing the last thing to be done is having the floor painted a shop grey color. The lights are up, the heater is mounted, garage door is installed, siding is all on, insulated and painted walls, electric is all complete.........pretty much all done. Now we have piles and piles of snow where this new building is supposed to be located. We are hoping for a miracle to be able to get this thing up here. Please stay tuned and thanks again for following along on our journey!
mr.moto 96 #107 Posted February 7, 2014 This is too absolutely COOL!!!! I wish I could re-enroll in elementary school (get an advanced degree?). I'm going figure out a way to work a Harrison Elementary Garden Tractor Club decal into the 1/25 scale Electro project.
bmsgaffer 2,043 #108 Posted February 7, 2014 Now we have piles and piles of snow where this new building is supposed to be located. We are hoping for a miracle to be able to get this thing up here. Sounds like you need to gather all the wheel horse owners within 100 miles of you with snow blowers to have a ground breaking snow blowing ceremony and make you a nice big open space.
SALTYWRIGHT 859 #109 Posted February 7, 2014 IF THIS WAS CLOSER I WOULD DONATE A TRACTOR TO HELP OUT. I GAVE A WHEEL HORSE TO A TECH. SCHOOL IN R.I. THIS PROGRAM IS WHAT THE KIDS NEED TODAY.

whfan74 2,015 #112 Posted February 17, 2014 For those of you that have been following along, today will be known as "D" day for the Harrison Elementary Garden Tractor Club. The new building is set to arrive this afternoon!!!!! The new 12x20 will have it's own police escort up to the new resting place. We will be working on getting it set in place and work will soon commence on the refurbish of the C-120. I will be sure to get some pictures and share this milestone with everyone!
whfan74 2,015 #113 Posted February 17, 2014 Wheel the police escort did not take place but I was the lucky one nominated to lead the caravan. The building was already loaded up on the trailer when I arrived and the guys were just strapping her down for the adventure. Once everything was secure the journey to its new home was underway...... Once we arrived to the school the guys didn't waste any time as the wind chill made it feel like 5 degrees out. The nice thing is that there were blocks for support already in place from the previous building that was removed. They drove up one of their backhoes to help maneuver the building in to place. The building had to be pulled past an existing concrete ramp and then pulled back to it. It isn't a perfect match as far as height is concerned but we will address that in the future. Here it is being maneuvered....... It is now officially home. The heater needs to be wired up and electric needs to be run to the building. We are almost back in business. Updates will be increasing again as progress on the building and tractor will continue. Stay tuned everyone!

Your doing a great job with this tractor club Scot, Cant wait to see the expressions on the kids faces when they can stay warm working on a tractor! Keep up the great work Scot!!
whfan74 2,015 #116 Posted February 17, 2014 Thanks guys! What a fun day it has been. Headed back over to do some things and dropped off a storage cabinet and some other misc items. The kids are going to be floored when they return to school and see it. We just need to get electric run to the building and we will be ready to rock and roll. I honestly thought about getting a sign for the outside but decided against it so we are not advertising what is inside of it. So instead I purchased a decal from Terry and mounted it on some foam board to be able to hang it in the barn. Here are a couple of pics from the inside.

wingrider 21 #119 Posted February 20, 2014 Scot I was trying to pick you out of the crowd, but was not able to figure out which one was you, reason being I didn't see anyone with shorts on. I have never seen you with long pants on. I really think you are doing a great thing for the kids that will help them all there lives. Great job & God bless. whfan74 2,015 #120 Posted March 3, 2014 Finally getting a chance to update our last meeting which was held Thursday night. It was a huge step in us moving forward as we are now able to use the new building. The building is not hard wired but we are able to run an extension cord temporarily so we have light and can run a portable heater. The kids were excited to finally be back in business. We focused on getting the engine torn down and we will focus on getting it prepped for some new paint. We also tore down another 12 horse that had a broken rod. The kids worked with dad and learned how important it is to do routine maintenance. Here is some photos of the club in the new building and back in action....... Of course a little more of everyone's favorite activity........sanding! Still working with the sandblasted and hoping to have the kids apply the powder to the tractor soon so reassembly can commence. Thanks for following our journey!
