TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #1 Posted August 24, 2008 Tomorrow morning I will be heading opposite the sunrise (armed with only a can of Copenhagen Long Cut and a bottle of Diet Mt. Dew) to perform a Horse rescue. I have been searching for a 50's WH for a few years now, and passed on quite a few RJ-58/59's because they were either way too much money, or total junkers. (or both ) RJ-35's are normally ridiculously priced, so I look at them in awe and only wish one could live here with its younger kin. Well, today I hit paydirt! (the Holy Grail, if you will.) I have struck a deal on an RJ-35 and have narrowed it down to a very late '55 or perhaps a '56. (with the help of DMESS and the only picture I have) It's gonna take about 3 hours of driving and 3/4 of a tank of gas, but to me - it's worth every dollar! (can't say penny any more - you can't even get a piece of gum for a penny.) Stay tuned for the latest breaking news on this event. :horseplay:

TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #9 Posted August 24, 2008 OK, fellers.... At precisely 10:17AM, the Exploder and trailer headed west on I-80 with me in the pilot's chair: We had beautiful weather: And even got to see a "relative" from Ohio: The RJ and mower deck got loaded up and followed us back home: Who's this guy????? Anyhow..... I know part of the hood is gone and the speed control stuff is sort of missing/hacked, but this is my "new" RJ after a quick bath: With the K-90 that's been waiting patiently for a tractor to ride on: THE END........ for now. :USA:
pond195520032003 27 #10 Posted August 24, 2008 TT, Glad to see you made it home safe with the rj herd Rustlers were out in full force and some one put out an A.P.B. nice horse by the way :horseplay: i looked at the pics close and it looks like the one i had (56) here is the link or pick looks the same to me :banghead:
Sparky-(Admin) 23,158 #11 Posted August 25, 2008 Nice find Terry. I know you'll have that tractor up and running in no time . Mike......
Kelly 1,033 #12 Posted August 25, 2008 Looks to be in good shape, bummer someone cut the hood but finding the rear half will be easier than the smooth front, and nice K-
Buzz 502 #13 Posted August 25, 2008 Looks like you had a pretty good week Terry, landed a job and picked up an RJ-35 Maybe you ought to pick up a lottery ticket and try for a trifecta. My grandmother always said good things happen in threes........... Congratulations on both your new acquisitions.
BPjunk 184 #14 Posted August 25, 2008 Terry, From the pictures you posted the RJ-35 is a early 1956, you can tell this by the frame which only in 1956 was pressed steel and the tractor having the cast steering wheel. Good Find! Wild Bill in Richmond, Va.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #15 Posted August 25, 2008 Thanks, fellers! I am seriously thrilled that it's here, even if some of it is missing. I never thought that I would have the chance (or the money) to have one in my possession, but it's here! I'm certain that some of the missing pieces will be tough to find, (or expensive) but I think I can fab a lot of the parts. Dustin has already offered some pictures and measurements of the brackets and mounts for the speed control, and possibly even part of a hood. I'm in no rush to get it done, but the hardest part is over..... finding one! :horseplay: And Wild Bill.... if I told you this had an old Wisconsin engine and a B-W 3 speed car transmission on it when I picked it up, you'd believe me, right? :banghead:
bell 11 #16 Posted August 25, 2008 NICE! Well, it will be.... :banghead:
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,608 #17 Posted August 25, 2008 TT, I had to wait a few hours for the pictures to load (blasted dial up! ) before I could post intelligently (though that never stop me before). I do say that was one successful horse thievery going on. Does the Ohio bunch know you took some horses across state lines? Seriously though nice find(s). I'm sure that RJ probably cruising around your yard very soon. :banghead:
kpinnc 14,647 #18 Posted August 25, 2008 You got a good one TT! And having seen the type of work you can do, I have no doubts that the RJ will be not only a great runner, but a looker as well. Can't wait to see the finished product! Kevin
stevinator 1 #19 Posted August 25, 2008 TT congrats on your find.I aquired a rj 58 in March and have been working on it.It is my first tractor project. Missing the back half of the hood makes me wonder if some were 2 piece like how I found mine. Most guys say they were one piece like the picture of ponds above.Mine was on and I didn't know the difference.I had 8 bolts holding it on instead of the 4 like in pictures. There were 4 small metal pieces with holes in each end and they went on the support and both hood pieces. I have to find an original engine and seat for mine to be all correct.I have the deck also and it looks good.I have a small briggs on mine now to be able to take it to small shows around here.I am not good at the pictures but there is one in the gallery if you hit the link.It was before I got the decals.Your stuff on here looks great so I can't wait to see this one.
