papaglide 542 #1 Posted August 22, 2013 I got my brand new deck a few months ago. On my 416 and now my 417, the deck doesn't lift equally side to side. The discharge side will be up on the bumper, or close to it and the opposite side wheel will be on the ground. I am not sure what would cause this or how to remedy it. daveoman1966 3,841 #2 Posted August 22, 2013 It could be that don't have it fit right at the mid-mount Tach-o-Matic. First, the round rod on the lift bar MUST be in the slotted hole of the draft bar on the mower deck. Next, there is a fork on the 3/4" bar that locks into the hitch and this fork MUST be pointed up and slightly forward. That fork has to engage the rod underneath before locking it in place in the tach-o-matic.
Tankman 3,523 #3 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) I adjusted bolt/item #14. Worked. Edited August 22, 2013 by Tankman
waltsuz 12 #4 Posted August 27, 2013 I posted the exact same problem several weeks ago. Have not found what is wrong other than the deck is way heavier on the left side. The #14 bolt adjustment suggestion helps slightly but does not fix this problem. Mine is a 48" on a 518..I can't believe there is not more issue with this, hope someone has a solution. Walt I had the lifting problem, adjustment of #14 bolt solved my problem or at least the deck'll travel raised. Also a 48" SD deck on my '90 520-8. My '85 416-8 same deck, same problem, adjusting bolt #14 allowed me to at least travel with the two bumpers keeping the deck quiet and still.
papaglide 542 #6 Posted August 28, 2013 The bolt adjusting helped ever so little. My deck too is heavier on the left side. I raised the eyebolt on the deck lift chain by turning it in the trunnion. I should have checked this before, the bolt was even with the trunnion. I think that that is way too low. Now the bolt sticks above the trunnion by about 3/4 inch. This helped a lot but it stills hangs down on the left side. At least the bumpers are somewhat closer to the frame now. Maybe the deck is "wacky"?? Even though it is brand new. leeave96 490 #7 Posted August 28, 2013 You might need to lower the other side to get the deck level. For the adjustment of the deck height where the bumpers hit in the up position, you need to adjust the trunion (?) that holds the lift chain to the lift - if I recall correctly. Good luck, Bill
