D200 Hood Insulation

Recommended Posts

Marv

I need dimensions on the hood insulation for the D200. This is no longer available so I need to make one. I can probably figure it out but would be helpful if someone has one with it installed. I have to find the right material to make it from too.

Marv, I own a 1978 D-200 but it has no insulation in the hood. I don't even see anything to suggest it ever did have any insulation. Are you sure the D-200 had insulation? If so maybe only certain years had it.

My D-180 doesn't have any hood insluation.  It's the same as a D-200 except for the bore and stroke of the engine.

This struck me as odd also - I have had a 180 from almost new and there was/isnt a hint of any insulation. Another question would be what would the insulation do? Its an open hood set-up.

Marv does your tractor have the remnants of insulation on it? if so, could you take a pic of it? Or give us a description of what you have in mind.

My 73 18 automatic has a clear plastic sheet glued to the inside of the hood  it apears as it may have had some kind of insulation attached to the plastic as there is traces of gray residue on the plasic. the plastic sheet covers just the front half of the hood directly above the motor there is even a circular cutout in the plastic directly above where the air cleaner is. hope this helps wish i could post a pic but have camera issues.

They all had insulation on them from the factory. It was a foil faced grey closed cell foam pad about 1 to 1 1/4 inches thick that was attached with a large sheet of double sided tape. There was a large circle cut out for the air cleaner to fit right in it without rubbing. My 18 auto had remnants of it left but I didn't install it when I redid it last year. The purpose of the isulation was sound deadening and heat reduction. Cecil wanted the 18 Automatic designed to be "quietest Wheel Horse ever built"

Thanks everybody. First I am not rhe original owner of the tractor. The question arose because there is residue of some type of adhesive in the front part of the hood and it does outline the air cleaner. Checking the Toro parts viewer for 01-20KS00 I find in the sheet metal and covers item 21 is an insulation. Looks like bobert94 description. Maybe I can guestimate it and come up with something.

I think I will use Duct Board to make the insulator. I will trial and error for size and fit. For those who don't know, the Duct Board I am referring to is a foil faced fiberglass material used to make air distribution ducts in heating and cooling systems. It is heat resistant so it should work in this application.
