No air filter..........

Recommended Posts

Fordiesel69

I noticed snow blowers do not have air filters but rather a hot air box / duct.  I assume this is because there is not a lot of abrasives in the air during the winter.

We ended up putting a Tecumseh H70 7HP snowblower engine on a go kart and was wondering how long the engine can last without adding an air filter.  I would like to add one, but the person who owns the kart thinks it will rob some power & that the drive gear will wear out well before the engine.  What are your thoughts?

I picked up a TrailBlazer 5 this summer with no filter and that warm air box.  It sorta ran but not well so I tore into the carb and air box... what a mess amazing it would start at all when I put it back together it is getting a filter.  I don't care how clean the air is in winter snow.  I wonder if the kit to convert the machine into a mower included an air filter??

I always wondered about the hotrod guys that run engines without filters and use those velocity stacks.  If they used filters they probobly wouldn't have to rebuild their engines after every race.

You know the PTO on that motor drives off the cam shaft. You have some gearing to do.

Go with your gut & add one if you " want the engine to last " .

The fine particles that the engine ingests will not only ruin the top-end in short order , but will eventually slip past the rings & into the oil cutting it's life very short .

My race motors doesn't even get started in the garage without one. Maybe a little lube would make his drive gear last longer too.

That ounce of power you get now, will be gone when the rings start wearing out and the cyl. walls are all scratched up, the carb will get dirty fast and not work right.

Run without an air filter and it will be junk in no time.

I totally agree with all of the above. A go cart kicks up a TON of dirt and dust. All it takes is one grain of sand to get into that motor and......stick a fork in it, its done.
