rmaynard 16,363 #1 Posted August 16, 2013 My newly acquired 1970 Lawn Ranger (basket case), is a 1-8755. That ID specifies that it is supposed to have an electric start Tecumseh V80. However, when disassembling things yesterday, I discovered a tag on the engine that says SBV-355 1096F, indicating that it has a short block replacement. So my question is, is this still considered a V80? I am going to try to order some parts like a head gasket and carburetor kit, but am hesitant to do so until I am sure of what I have. KATO 115 #2 Posted August 16, 2013 NO according to what i can find that is a 7 hp short block (2 34 inch bore).the VM and VH 80 motors had 3 116 and 3 516 inch bores. That cyl assembly number is 34172a which is the same as a V70 cyl number. The V80 cyl numbers are 33866a for VM 80 and 33089 for VH 80. :handgestures-thumbupright:
rmaynard 16,363 #3 Posted August 16, 2013 Thanks. Do you know if they both used the same carburetor?
KATO 115 #4 Posted August 16, 2013 I didnt check and compare every spec number because obviously there are hundreds, but i did a cross section of 10 to 15 over the years. The V70 and VH70 SEEM to only use 2 631449 and 631792 . The VH80 only used 1 631609. The VM80 used 3... 631697A ,631863C and 632991. Not sure what the difference is but i would bet that the one thats on your motor MAY be from the original 8hp bolted on to the 7hp short block (or not)
