Which Seat Pan?

Recommended Posts

MalMac

I have been told that there were some Black Hood C's that left the factory with Metal Seat Pan's. If this is true which Pan did they have on them? Was it the Pan that the C's used or was it the newer updated designed that was used on the 300 series and up? Reason asked is because it's almost time to change out the big broke plastic one and I was wondering which one would me more correct. I know both will fit. Seems to me the older C's series would be the one to use. But if they did come in the end of the run for the C's maybe it was the newer style. I know Wheel Horse was famous for using what ever was on hand at the time or used what was on the shelf just to get rid of it.

Any seat pan from about 78 on up should work as long as it has the hole for the rear mounted gas tank.  I think the ones you are referring to were in late 84, the pre 81 pans were flatter on the sides after 84 they were a bit more contoured on the sides like the plastic ones.

I have a pan from a 78 c-81 on mine but the gas tank hole is a bit off and it did not have a hole to adjust the speed selector tension, but a drill fixed that quick enough.

1984 was the only year they used a metal fender, it looks the same as the 300 series fenders, BUT to be 100% correct the back of the 300 fender about 1" up across the bottom edge is a body line, the black hood fender does NOT have that body line, it is smooth on the back, everything else is the same.

So it is true that the factory did release a black hood with a steel fender pan. I have never seen an orginal one. Only seen the ones that have been replaced.

But unless you know about the missing body line, you would not know if you are looking at a factory one or a replaced one, so you may have seen one just didn't know it.

Would it be the same as the pans that came on the Workhorses?

C-85

A while ago members were saying what they'd like on their W/H wish lists.  One of mine would have been to have someone that could make up new seat pans out of metal, which were shaped just like the plastic ones.  I have a C-85 and a C-105.  My C-85 has the plastic one (which has many patches) and the C-105 has the newer metal one.  This makes the C-105 look like a smaller tractor because the metal pan is much smaller than the plastic one.  So I have really liked the looks of the plastic because it make a tractor look much bigger.  For ruggedness sake I like the metal one, but I really like the looks of the plastic one much better, it would be sooooo great to have a metal pan shaped like the plastic one! :)
