steve k 82 #1 Posted August 11, 2013 I have a commando 6 and 8 both have replacement throttle cables with the hex shaped shaft at the dash knob. When I turn the knob to lock the throttle it spins on the hex shaft before it locks the throttle. I tried to drill a hole through the knob and shaft for a small roll pin but the hex is too hard to drill........ I thought about pulling the knob off to heat the hex to anneal it but the knob wont pull off it must be molded on. Any fix for this? Thanks.
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted August 11, 2013 I bought new push pull cables for a 857 I did, the second time I used the throttle cable the knob spun on the shaft, I yanked the knob off yes yanked, it came off hard, but it was junk like it was, I JB welded it back on, and bought a better replacement cable soon after, and have had no issues with it for 2 years now, I bought it from a swapmeet vendor, I can look up his name if needed. daveoman1966 3,841 #3 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) Never had or found a set of push - pull cables that worked very well or lasted very long. If it was me, I'd chuk them and install a set of the lever-action cables, even if it means cutting a slot in the dash to do it. These lever-action cables are MUCH EASIER to set / adjust and they stay put the 1st time without having to constantly re-set them. Here is a pair from a B-100 and you ought to be able to trim to length to connect to the carb / choke. The bracket to connect to the dash can also be re-shaped / cut / drilled to needs. Ignore the other parts in this pic.... Edited August 11, 2013 by daveoman1966
