Good price for a c175

Recommended Posts

Jake Kuhn

Hi All,

A Neighbor has a c175 they want to sell. It comes with a side discharge mower deck, not sure if it was a 48 or a 42. a snowblower, tire chains, and plastic wheel weights. It also comes with a original wheel horse generator.  The tractor needs some wiring work, but they say it runs good. I am not going to buy it without seeing it run and drive it to see how good the hydro is. Everything is in pretty decent shape though. They are asking 1000, but I'm not going to pay that. Was wondering what you guys think a good price is for it? I do not have any pictures.

Thanks, Jake

Jake,

How does a "neighbor" happen to have a WH for sale?!?! :teasing-whipblue:   seems my neighbors only have baby clothes or pet stuff for sale!!    others will chime in but make sure it's a Series II 17 hp Kohler so you won't have the oil lube issue.  Price?  always comes down to condition and what you want to spend...

I think a grand ain't bad for the machine and all the attachments, depending of course on condition... it really is all about condition.

If the stuff is all in good shape and you can get it for $800 I think it would be a steal!

Well Jake a C-175 has an Eaton 11 trans and I have had quite a few and never had a problem with one. But I think it is wise to make sure  it runs good and pulls good. As far as price there are a couple things to consider. The biggest consideration is the K-17 and weather it is a series I or series II. I have had four of those and only one of them ran and didn't have a broken rod. The running one didn't run very well either. Then there is the overall condition and the deck size will make a difference. With the added extras, snow blower, weights, chains and that generator $1000 would be in the ballpark. Just buying the extras separately would probably be $400 especially with a generator. Without pictures it is hard to figure a price though. If you can work a deal for less it would be a good deal though.

Not all, but the majority.  Early 1980 production still used Sundstrand.

I think perhaps more... at least here in the northeast.  I've been looking for a decent blower and don't want to pay the $300 average price that I've been seeing.  Generator?  forget it... if it's a 5KW model, it will be at LEAST $300 by itself!

Jeff is right. If that C-175 is in good shape, after it is hot the tranny is still strong and doesn't have blowby, the attachments with it and in particular, the generator IF IT WORKS, would make an 800 to 1 grand purchase close. However, any bad attachments or a bad tranny puts it much lower. My KT 17 Series I still runs well but most C-175's with the original KT's are at the end of their life span unless they were rebuilt or not run much at all.

Good Luck!
