Quick Tire Question

Recommended Posts

JC 1965

I came across Two ATV tires really cheap..I would like to buy them and put them on my C-121 for pushing snow but I don't know if they will fit my wheels. The tire size is 25x10x12 And my wheels are 12x7. Are they too wide for my 7" wide wheels ?   From what i can find out on google ATV wheels for this size tire is 7" wide. I also wonder if  the tires will have enough clearance without rubbing the gas tank. I don't think they will be too high but i can raise the fender pan if necessary. Width is my main concern. Any help appreciated.

•  Your original tires are 23", these higher ATV 25" would be 1" closer to the fender, you may need to do some modifications, like raising the fenders some.

•  Their 10" width would probably 'fit' on your metal wheels OK in average use (it's the thick 10" rubber tire width in contact with the metal 7" wheel that really pushes the limits), but on a sharp turn at a higher speed in 3rd gear, it could very easily "pop off' the wheel.  With plowing action, there is a lot of rough use going on, you don't want a problem in Winter weather.  Lots of clearance on a C-120 tank clearance with Wheel Horse metal wheels, could add washers --- other brand wheels have different "offset".

•  The tread would probably be a big improvement over your regular turf tires;  and adding weight would be the best major help getting traction.

I had 25x11x12 ATV tires on stock rims on a C-121 they rubbed the lip on the back of the footrest a little, but I only ran 8 psi in the tires.

Kelly, Did you have any problem with the width clearance ?  I just wondered cause the gas tank is under the seat. I was surprised when I checked ATV sites and discovered that 7" wide wheels are recommended for 10" wide ATV tires.

The C-121 has the tank under the seat, it was close but cleared, I think a 8.5 rim would have been perfect, on a ATV they work better rounded, for cornering, but you will not have that issue on a tractor, but being rounded, only about 5 or 6" touched the ground, you would have to be in mud or digging before using more of the tread, wider rims would be best, for a tractor.
