illinilefttackle 399 #2 Posted August 7, 2013 Depends on its age and how it has been maintained-I completely rebuilt mine 5 years ago-and have not used any oil in between changes at all-Al
rmaynard 16,363 #3 Posted August 8, 2013 Many factors are involved in oil consumption. As stated, depending on the condition of the engine and how it was maintained, you could be burning oil if the rings are bad, losing oil if the seals or gaskets are bad, blowing oil out if the breather is clogged. My K241's (K301 block) don't use any oil from oil change to oil change (once per season). One engine is rebuilt, the other is 36 years old and never been rebuilt. Fordiesel69 271 #6 Posted August 10, 2013 A little oil consumption is not an issue if the engine does not knock. Certain brands of oil will "flash" off and appear to be consuming oil, when really it is just vaporizing out the breather vent. Not need for an overhaul as long as you dont; see clouds of blue smoke.
