bean 85 #1 Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) I bought this tiller a while back, and never got around to looking at it. I took off the tines, because oil had leaked out of both sides. what do you think? are the seals that far back into the housing(3/16th")? or has someone removed them, and never got around to replacing them. it looks like there may be the remnants of a seal inside both of the tubes of the tines. I'm guessing that If the seals are still there, I will have to take a 1/16th" drill bit and get a hole started for a tiny pick or toll to extract them Edited August 7, 2013 by bean

I got the seal out. the shaft is a little rusty, but I think I can clean it with emery cloth. how big of a project was it to split the cases? where did you find a gasket? jeremi3210 742 #5 Posted August 7, 2013 I was able to reuse the gasket. As for spliting it it was easy not much on the inside. There should be two seals on each side they are put in next to eachother.
bean 85 #6 Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) . There should be two seals on each side they are put in next to eachother. I saw that on the exploded view. 2 seals per side? I guess there is dirt grinding into the seals while it is running Edited August 7, 2013 by bean
bean 85 #7 Posted August 8, 2013 I ordered the 4 axle shaft seals for the tiller, from napa. does anyone have the seal number for the input drive shaft seal? how hard is it to remove the large pulley? I might as well go through it 100%. I cleaned the paint off of the tag, and found out it is a 1973-74.
