70s c120 automatic differences?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed some of the c120 autos from the mid 70s have a hydraulic lift, and some manual. didn't they use the same sustrand trans? how do the sustrands compare to an eaton 1100?

As far as I know the hydraulic lift was an option just like the electric clutch. I don't think theres a downside to the Sundstrand vs Eaton other that parts availability. I have a 1973 12 auto that has a Sundstrand in it with close to 4000 hours and nothing ever done to it other than change the oil every year and filter every other. Its a really good tranny and pulls like a bear..... I also have a 416 with an Eaton 1100 and never had real problems with it although its a 1996 and has about 1700 hours on it. I'm more concerned about the Onan than I am the transmission

Jeff,

thanks. there's a guy down the street with a couple of wheel horses he wants to sell. a c120 was one of them.

No need to worry about the manual lift too. I just bought a 1974 C-160 8-speed with a manual lift just because I get a full inch higher than with the hydro lift on my 416, plus that Kohler thumps so nice.
