Dumb Question or Not?

Is it possible to rewind a Kohler K alternator stator to put out more amps (say 25-30 amps) ? And how about the rectifier?

Prob a motor or starter/gen repair shop, if any still exist and it had the num stator "arms", could do but cost would more than likely run higher than a replacement used one. If you know the trade and can get the wire, time and cost would still prob a neg factor. I would be curios how they would determine num of winds and all per "arm". If you have a local shop that does the repair they sometimes give advice free on this type work. Rectifier don't have clue but good point to consider.

My uncle ran a rewind shop that did everything from hydro dam generators to smaller  alternator and generators.   He always said that on the small engine stuff brushes and bearings were about all you could change and make it work well.   Rewind of the armature would not do well and was not worth the time and effort.    It could probably be done but what would the cost be???  A pretty penny is my guess.

I'm curious, why would you even want to increase the current output?  I can't think of a use for the extra power... unless you want to run a CB with a 200W kicker.

Well, yeah! I could do that too! Or I could weld with it.

I was just looking at the K manual and they show a 25 amp stator w/ 18 posts. The 15 amp has 18 posts but 2 aren't used.
