Wheel Horse Kid 105 #1 Posted August 3, 2013 Hi, We are currently working on our 1990 520H and here is our problem: The tractor's starter will not turn over. We have power to the dash gauges and test lights. All we can get is a clicking sound at the relay (which we have replaced with a new one) when we turn the key. Since trying to fix the problem, the starter has turned over only one time. Here is a list of things we have done to try and repair the problem: 1. Cleaned and checked fuses, ground connections, and wiring harness connection. 2, Changed ignition switch, switch relay, and seat switch. 3. Bypassed the neutral switch. 4. Checked pto and parking brake switches. 5. Added ground wire from battery to wiring harness ground. This motor was working well before it was transplaneted to the 520H, so I am thinking the problem is with the 520H. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Taylor
Hodge71 665 #2 Posted August 3, 2013 Taylor, The wiring on these things is riddled with issues. My 416 occasionally does it too. I firmly believe that the multipin connector that ties the harness parts together is the culprit. Normally all I have to do is take it apart, and put it back together and it fires right up and is good for months. Its the goofiest thing. I actually hate the tractor because of it. My C-160 is so simple and to me its much stronger than the darn Onan.
Wheel Horse Kid 105 #3 Posted August 4, 2013 Got it figured out. We did not have the coil wire hooked up. LOL! She purrs like a kitten now!
Hodge71 665 #4 Posted August 4, 2013 I'm really lost now Your coil wires have nothing to do with the blue wire that takes power down to the starter to turn over the engine
Wheel Horse Kid 105 #5 Posted August 6, 2013 Well, we cleaned the multipin connector that you talked about and that fixed the turning over problem but the tractor would not fire. We then figured out that problem was that the coil wire had been cut up and was not connected. Sorry for the confusion, should have been more clear.
