Is there a source that will show if a part from one tractor is the same as another?

I am looking for parts for a 520xi, and have found some that look very similar on ebay and craigslist.  But they have different parts numbers..  Any way to check conclusively?  Thanks!  Mark

I've been looking for something similar myself... what I would call a "Where Used" database, where one could punch in a number and come up with all the machines that use that particular part.

What you are looking for is something a bit different I think, but would be equally useful, let's call it a "Will It Fit" database?  I too have seen parts that look identical but with different part numbers and wondered what the difference was.

There is at least one of the parts distributors that have a feature similar to the 'where used'... is it "mowparts.com"?

No, it was " ereplacements.com " .  If you enter a part number there, under the part listing it will show you all the machines it fits... ( well, all the machines it knows about anyway ).

Sometimes the part numbers are superceded by others and the part that looks the same might be listed by a different number... and might in fact be the same part.

For example:

Lower steering shaft for a 1980 C175, part number in my book is 6469, but it's been superceded several times:

http://www.ereplacementparts.com/lower-steering-shaft-p-1081977.html

Note that it shows all the superceded numbers, and all the machines it will fit.

Before Toro changed their software, you could go to any online Toro parts source such as SEPW, or ProParts Direct, put in the part number and it would list every model that it was compatible with. However...that is no long the case. But you can do a similar search on those sites, it's just not as easy.

For example, go here:  http://www.propartsdirect.net/p/Toro-Lawnmower-Parts?aribrand=TO

Put in your part number without putting in a model number, click on search, then when the "select model" link comes up, click on it and you will get a list of models.

That's very useful information rmaynard. That ereplacement didn't find my test part but the one you had did. Cool! :bow-blue:

I just used PartsTree looking at wheels and rollers for a deck. As usual, the original number comes up blank but if you continue scrolling down the parts number series starts again, including the replacement for the part called out for in the blowup diagram.

Lynn, what was your test part number?

MOST of the part suppliers use the   ARINET.COM  database platform.  This means that theoretically they all can display the same information.  What the individual distributors choose to display and make available, and the prices they set,  is somewhat up to them.

I don't believe that the individual sites that use the ARI network actually STOCK any of the parts either.  I think it's reasonable to assume that they all come from the SAME warehouses.

This is a VERY similar situation with auto parts... or appliance parts... or ANY parts these days.

For a certain amount of money, any one of us could set up a website, purchase the website templates, and start our own parts retail business and never have to touch a part.  Everything gets 'drop-shipped' from the same warehouses.
