Couldn't save this Raider from the scrap heap!

I was driving to work Monday near Dublin Ohio. I noticed a bunch of tree clearing trucks and stuff just starting to mangle up an old Farmstead, I hate that! Tree's were piled up all over and remains of buildings too. One big pile was for scrap metal and I happened to notice the familiar outline of a 1970's square hood WH!! I barely seen it at all because of all the junk piled up and vines were all over it too! I stopped and talked to one guy who was running a Bobcat. He said it was slated for the scrap heap. I asked if I could have it and he said go ahead and take it, he didn't see nothing! I said I didn't see nothing either. Too bad I couldn't get it loaded into my work van though, dang it. The mower deck was too wide and it wouldn't come off either due to rust. So I decided to strip as much off of it as possible in 10 minutes! I got the hood with a head light bucket w/bulbs and a good hood ornament with correct mounting pieces, rear fender assembly, right foot rest and drive belt guard, 2 rear hub caps, pto clutch disc, nice Tecumseh air cleaner w/backing plate, head light switch and cig lighter housing, a carb spring and bracket, 2 old style front tires and rims and a shifter knob! Not bad for a pile of junk sitting in a pile of junk!

Hey you did your best to salvage as much as you could, instead of the entire WH going to scrap yard. Good job!

WOW! Poor Wheel Horse! At least you were able to get some parts off her before she went.

I would have asked if he could have just set it aside and I would have come back later that day / night after work and grabbed it.  Nothing beats free :)
