Rollerman 290 #1 Posted December 8, 2007 Looked at an interesting "to me" Wheel Horse today. It's a 1969(?) Charger V8 model...V8 meaning vertical shaft/8HP. They came with the KV181 Kohler. It's a neat tractor, not in bad shape, cheap & runs. So here's the question....Whats the story on the hydro trans in it? I was told it's a Wheel Horse design & not a Peerless, but did not get much more than that. I'm ignorant when it comes to vertical shaft models. CasualObserver 3,406 #2 Posted December 9, 2007 Stephen, that Charger used an Eaton hydro. If you have questions, I think Joel Moore could help you out. He's combatmp29r on the main yahoo group. He's the one that shared that Kohler owner's manual after he got it. He sent it me and I scanned it and uploaded it for him.

Nick 13 #4 Posted December 9, 2007 Stephen, As the vertical shaft models went those were built somewhat heavy duty. Terry down by Indy had several of them. He even had a tiller for them that he got a lot of use out of with no problems. Thought I had a picture of it but didnt find it yet. Nick
Nick 13 #5 Posted December 10, 2007 Took a while but found the picture. I think this was at the 2001 PA show. His three tractors had about all the options. Not sure how it is finding parts for these tractors but guess they are something different. Nick in Ohio
Rollerman 290 #6 Posted December 10, 2007 Thanks for the adding the picture Nick, I've been typeing to Terry already & he has gave me some helpfull info. May go after it next weekend ?....just what I need another project. Maybe I could have the 1st Charger V8/FEL tractor?...just after I win the lottery. Curmudgeon 28 #7 Posted December 10, 2007 Just so you know, the first V-18 has already been done and chronicled in another forum. So if you want to think repower, think again. Looking at pictures of that project, I see the V-8 has a stamped steel frame. Pretty light for a loader (don't think it didn't make me a while to figure out what FEL stands for, spell check sure doesn't know!) project. But then again, might be a while before you win the lottery so it really doesn't matter. Dale
Rollerman 290 #8 Posted December 10, 2007 Now Dale I'm only kidding about an FEL on a Charger V8. I just think it's kinda a unique & complete tractor I would not mind owning. The frames are stamped....but much heavier than the run of the mill vertical shaft tractors. It looked to be 1/4" or close to it. I've pretty much given up on an FEL on a Wheel Horse "not saying I won't have one". I think a skid loader is the way to go. Now back to Charger V8's.
