Fordiesel69 271 #3 Posted July 26, 2013 SAE 30 I recommend searching for Shell T1 SAE 30 diesel rated oil. Has a few more additives to help prevent cam wear. Or a 15w-40 off the self diesel oil will have all the good additives, but the engine may use a little more. It is easier to find which is why I use it. Myth: If you use synthetic oil, you can run them longer. FALSE!!!! In the kohlers they are splash lubed and have no oil filter. By 25 hrs you will see swirls even on a good engine. So 25 HRS MAX.
