Bought my Dad a Birthday Present Tonight

Recommended Posts

I have been going to the Wheel Horse Show in PA since the 3rd one, and my son (who is 9), has been to the Show every year but one. I have tried to talk my Dad into going for years and he never would, but once my son got old enough to ask him.....he started going.......go figure :eusa-think:.  In fact, he has gone with us the past 3 years. It has become the trip that all three of us really enjoy getting to spend time together. This past show, my Dad said he was looking to buy an old round nose Wheel Horse, but we didn't find any he liked. When my Dad was growing up his family had a Wheel Horse Suburban that they mowed, plowed the garden, etc., so I completely understand his desire to get a "Round Hood".

While snooping on Craigslist, I noticed a 702 for sale about 10 minutes from the house. They also had a 855 or 856 for sale as well. The lady called me this evening and asked if I was still interested and I said yes. It was raining, so I wasn't the most motivated person to go an hook up the trailer and drive into town to look at it. I asked if I could stop out around 8:30pm to look and she said fine. I pulled in and right behind me pulled in another person pulling a trailer. She showed me the tractor and said it ran before it was parked, but she didn't even know how to start it. After seeing the sheet metal was in very good shape and all original, I said I will take it. I must say, if I would have got there about 15 minutes later, the other guy would have stole this one out from under me as he was drooling all over the 702, as he was looking at the 855 and I think he would have taken both.

So....my Dad's birthday is in November and I needed a place to store this tractor so I took it to my brothers who has a pole barn and we will hide it under a tarp. We plan on giving it to him so he and my son can restore it together over the winter. Hopefully, they will be able to bring it to next years show!!!

That will make a great restore project for your Dad and your Son. I hope you get to throw a wrench in there too now and then. I also hope (for the time being) that your Dad isn't a member here and finds out about your little surprise too early. :)

Thad,

It does look like that even at Ohio State it is taught that  ......... the early bird gets the worm ... well in this case Wheel Horse !

It has also been a privilege to watch your son grow up and to talk to your dad during the parade.

That 702 is NICE ..... great find !
