Twin will use more gas, but has more power.  Fitment may be a concern......

The twin will run smoother.

Never heard of a 12 twin. Some twins might require the isolation cradle to mount and keep the PTO at the right height and center location. The single would be a drop in fit if it was off a WH. On any single less than a 12 I would say go with the twin but with the 12, I would say go with it based on overall power, ease of service and no mods required to convert. If the twin wasn't from a WH originally, you must make sure your crankshaft end is inch and an eighth with the <3.5 inches of length and a .25" keyway or your into more mods. (Not counting muffler clearance, wiring, etc.).

Me neither, but coming from me - that ain't saying much... ;)

I swapped a 14 hp twin Briggs Vanguard into my Simplicity Landlord.  It originally had an 18 hp Briggs Vanguard.  The 14 hp is the smallest twin I've ever seen and I've look around and any replacement in a Vanguard twin form is a 16 hp at min.
