Ken B 3,189 #4 Posted July 18, 2013 Try a simple spark plug first and check all connections but I bet the coil is junk....
rmaynard 16,301 #5 Posted July 18, 2013 Have you replaced the condenser? Do you have another coil you could try?
Pullstart 66,899 #6 Posted July 18, 2013 (edited) grampa always taught me to use the spark plug box to set the gap on the points.. clean up the crank with some emery paper before you start, then let the magnets pinch the cardboard in place while you tighten it up and pull the cardboard out. no need for feeler gages now! *edit* sorry, now I see that it shuts down after it's running. heat in a weak coil or condenser could make a weak spark, then no spark.. Your procedure sounds like a Briggs magneto setup. The points on the Kohler need to be set with a feeler gauge. Flywheel doesn't have to come off.
