Digger 66 3,488 #1 Posted July 16, 2013 I hope this in the correct area but it didn't seem to fit in the "implements & attachments" area . I'm going to tear into the PTO clutch tomorrow morning & by the looks of the 'fiche it appears pretty simple. Reason ? There's a slight thump that occurs twice every revolution , I'm assuming there's one or two needles inside with some wear on them ? My question is , there being an oil seal shown on the 'fiche , will I have to fill the inner cavity with some sort of lube ?
Jeff-C175 7,206 #2 Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) No need to fill. If you find that the bearing looks OK, spooge some grease on your finger and stick in in there and squeeze the grease into the needles. Use too much grease and it will work it's way past the seal and end up on your clutch disk. All you need is about a half tablespoon or so. Your 'thump thump' is more likely in the roller bearing with the 'spud shaft' on it, because once the PTO is engaged, the rotating assembly is 'locked' together. The needle roller isn't turning relative to the outer pulley at all. Edited July 17, 2013 by Jeffpicks
Callen 64 #3 Posted July 17, 2013 Check the drive pulley behind the clutch too. It may be loose.
Digger 66 3,488 #4 Posted July 17, 2013 Check the drive pulley behind the clutch too. It may be loose. The bolts & the retaining ears are tight . The engine side pulley runs true , as does the outer one . Not having a replacement seal , I didn't want to risk damaging the old one by removing it so I cleaned all the old grease I could with a rag & gas then blew compressed air to dry , Added new Hi-Temp synthetic grease ( I still think there's a flat spot on one or two of the needles though ). I'll live with it . It's a big improvement . Maybe this winter ....
