Wheel Horse Kid

Met a VERY nice Wheel Horse collector today!

Wheel Horse Kid

We sold a 953 deck to a gentleman up in Minnosota a couple of weeks ago and today he came to pick it. Little known to us, he is a HUGE garden tractor enthusist and had just come from a tractor show up in Wisconsin and had brought his whole colllection with him when he came to pick up the deck (as he had just came from the show)!!!!!

Dad was the one doing the transaction with the guy and I was still asleep and he came in my room and told me to get up and come out and check out this guy's collection. He said "It is probably the best collection you will ever see". Well, at those words I shot up like a rocket out of bed and got around as quickly as I could!!!! :)

Finally got around and headed outside and man was my dad right. My jaw about dropped to the ground and fell off my face when I looked into this guy's enclosed trailer!!! He had one of the coolest garden tractor collection's I had ever seen!!!!!!

He had a 4 wheel early Speedex without hood that had a model A transmission and steel wheels, a Wheel Horse C105 with a front mounted Wheel Horse generator that was SIGNED by Cecil Pond himself, a VERY cool modified Raider with (2) 8hp Kohlers mounted side by side on it, a Bantam Tractor, an early Craftsman 3 Wheel Tractor (Looked like the Bantam), a David Bradley Tri Trac with a plow, and a 1960 Wheel Horse Surburban with mower deck (Definilty my favorite as I really like Surburban's and RJ's and hope to get one soon!!). All of the tractors had been restored and looked VERY VERY nice!!!! :bow-blue:

Usually people just bring their truck and or truck/trailer (that is empty) when they come pick up a tractor or attachment, so to see someone bring their whole restored collection of garden tractors was really a treat!! Talk about a museum on wheels!! He also had the whole inside sides of his trailer covered in vintage garden tractor signs which was very cool.

No, I did not get any pictures (I should have), but he had already been here for awhile and I did not want to take up any more of his time. He said he was off to visit the Studebaker museum in South Bend before heading back home.

Thought you guys would enjoy hearing about my "adventure"!

Have a Great Week Everyone!
Taylor

I don't remember his name but I talked with him a bit at the Le Sueur Minnesota show, he has a very nice collection and I remember the trailer which was filled with signage on the walls.  All of his tractors were in very good or restored condition here are a couple pictures from last years show.

I am sure Jason (casual observer) has some pictures and more information about him.

Yep, that is his stuff! I forgot about his Lawn Boy Loafer. He also has a 953 that he is restoring.I did not catch his last name, but his first name is Ron. Wonder if he knows about RedSquare and about the new Wheel Horse book??? If he ever decides to sell his Surburban, I sure hope he let's me know!

His name is Ron from Buffalo, MN. (I won't put his last name up here for privacy)  His trailer is a super nice traveling mini-museum!  He usually stops by LeSueur for a day.  Ryan shared the Speedex and the Loafer.... here's a few of his others from the trailer.  The 520 with auxiliary tank is his regular mower.

He does know of RS, but doesn't participate in forums.

He took both the twin engine and the Speedex through the parade last year at LeSueur!  Rode the Speedex early, then jumped on the twin and caught up with the rest of our Wheel Horse group to go through again!

You're right...Ron is excellent people. I have seen him and his collection at LaSueur a few times.  I am hoping he finds out about the Jacksonville show in September.  He was looking for different shows to go to. :)  We usually help him pack up at the show, and it takes about an hour to look at all the signs in his trailer.  Very cool.
