518-H Blowing 15A Charging Fuse

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, I've got a 518-H that I just got running. It's blowing the 15A charging fuse. I followed the wire from the fuse out, it looks like one end goes to the regular and the other end goes to the end of the ?Starter? that also has a very large positive lead to the battery. So that means the fuse is on the exit of the charging. I can't figure out what's going on. If I replace the fuse, the voltage meter acts confused and then the fuse blows.

Has anyone seen this?

Thanks!!

Brad

Here is a wiring diagram that is easy to follow.

the other end goes to the end of the ?Starter?

Do you mean the starter  SOLENOID?

Wait... your starter has the solenoid 'built-in', yes?

the 15A charging fuse

If I replace the fuse, the voltage meter acts confused and then the fuse blows.

Looking at the schematic for your machine it appears that fuse is supposed to be a THIRTY amp ?

What do you mean "... voltage meter acts confused ..." ?  How so ?  what is it doing ?

HI Everyone, Thanks for the replies. I found out that the generator is generating good voltage, but the regular is shorted - it looks like it went. Unfortunately I have bigger problems, it looks like the connecting rod in one of the pistons just broke. I'm not up for repairing this engine and need to find another engine to re-power this tractor that's in otherwise good shape. I'm moving over to the replacement engine topic. Thanks!
