WHwest8597 85 #1 Posted July 8, 2013 I need to buy a new belt that runs from the PTO to the deck. I usually buy from a local dealers, but the last time I noticed the belt sold to be was not in a plastic bag, did not have toro stamped on it and was charge the toro price. If dealers are going to sell non toro parts at toro prices I might as well buy online.

fjdc100 8 #4 Posted July 8, 2013 HI Gary, you helped me before, it is a 42 inch deck, the local John Deere store gave me a M41960 which is 102.3 inches and .5 width, but even when I adjust the knob to loosen the pulleys all the way it seems to be too short and I do not want to force it on. Do you have a part number or know the dimensions, if this is the right belt then I will not have any adjustment , the belt will be tight from the install. Hope all is well with you, you helped me before with a clutch problem and that worked out great! Thanks Forgot to tell you it is a side discharge

fjdc100 8 #6 Posted July 9, 2013 Thanks once again for your help,I am glad I didn't try to force this belt on, I will take it back to the John Deere Store tomorrow and if they cannot provide the belt, it should be easy to find a Napa or Gates Belt in those dimensions, I also didn't know the degrees was important but it sure makes sense that it has to mate! Once again -Thanks --I had a hard time looking it up, I think my Tractor is one of a few in 1974 the Model number reads 1-0390.9, don't know why it has a .9 after it but when I put my serial number in at the Toro site and model number (without the .9) it cannot find it. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,499 #7 Posted July 9, 2013 Toro recognizes 1-0390 without the 9 or .9. All models numbers on the product ID plates had a 6th digit 6, 7, 8 or 9 in 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974. It is not used by anyone except us because you can subtract 5 from that 6th digit and get the model year. 9-5=4=1974. Attachments at the time also used the 6th digit. If Toro asks for a serial number on most product 1990 and older we can not use the serial number on the unit. We must use the word none. In most cases product 1991 and newer requires a serial number. If you don't have one go to https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro and enter the model name or model number. The results that come up include the serial number that they require - one of them being the word none. Garry
