Charlie Smith 142 #1 Posted July 6, 2013 As many of you will know I've had my raider 10 for around a year now and she's been fine, well lookey lookey a week before the UK wheel horse round up the troubles started, yesterday we had a problem with fuel starvation and sorted that out but now, with the starting..... Once it's been running its fine, will start straight away, but getting it started just doesnt seem to want to happen until after about 10 minutes of flattening the battery turning her over, she will start, but... Here's the puzzling bit, we've tried a lot to stop this, but can't seem too, can anyone suggest anything we can do?.... Once it's started, it just huffs it will still run in all gears high and low box but it will be all jumpy and huff the throttle opens all the way up and closes really quickly causing it to huff once it starts this we play around with the choke all that etc, it wont stop untill you kill the engine, start it again and two minuites after it will start to huff again, even though we aren't touching the controls? -Charlie
stevasaurus 23,281 #2 Posted July 6, 2013 I have a Raider 10 and have had some of the same things. If you have not checked this I have 2 suggestions. 1. Check the points...they control the timing. They should be set at .020, but I have found that, on older models, trying the gap at .018 runs better. 2. Take out the jet screw on top of the carburetor... a couple of little pin holes near the bottom could be clogged. Use a small wire and some carb cleaner to clean out. Replace screw, gently bottom out and turn back out 2 turns. Adjust after engine is warm...could be about 1/4 turn either way. Hope that helps.
Charlie Smith 142 #3 Posted July 6, 2013 Thank you for your feedback so quickly, I'm just trying this out now, I hope it works, if it fails to work I shall record what it's doing, and upload a video to show everyone, might be abit more helpful. -Charlie
Jeff-C175 7,206 #4 Posted July 6, 2013 ...had a problem with fuel starvation and sorted that out but now... Could be a ton of things, but what you have said so far sounds to me as if the starvation problem still isn't sorted 100%... just a WAG though... what was it that you did to sort the problem? Stigian 1,234 #5 Posted July 7, 2013 I think Steve has covered it all really.. Just a thought here... Is the fuel pump working correctly? They do have a habit of filling up all sorts of strange stuff, the ally pumps more so than the plastic ones.. Don't worry if you can't it it sorted before Ardingly Charlie, I'm sure it can be sorted at Ardingly

stevasaurus 23,281 #8 Posted July 7, 2013 I am glad that worked for you, Charlie. Hope you guys take some pictures and post them from the show. It would be nice to see some of the machines together from over there and to be able to put some faces with the names.
