Tom. 70 #1 Posted July 4, 2013 Hi all, Yesterday afternoon I set off heading north on the 315 mile round trip to collect yet another wheel horse! I won't go on about it so here are the pictures! The only bit of rust I can find Other than that it's a real nice straight machine. The engine turns over and has some compression however there is no air fitler and this has resulted in the carb being extra rusty and all ceased up. HOWEVER, I was lucky enough to pick this up A NOS K91T, I picked it up for what I thought was a decent price so went for it. I will most likely end up putting this NOS engine on it and painting it red, only time will tell though! My plans are to get it running for now as I'm having some problems with the transmission at the moment and maybe eventually restore it we will see. JC 1965 1,532 #7 Posted July 5, 2013 Great Find, And Yes you have been bitten. There is no cure for this type of bite, all you can do is treat the symptoms and buy more tractors.

Hi, Thanks for the reply! I have to admit I was very lucky with the K91 coming up for sale at the same time! Tom Great Find, And Yes you have been bitten. Tom There's no stopping you now Tom is there I can't wait to see what your next "rarity" find is Hi Ian, There isn't is there, I can't stop!! I had told myself this would be it, my C141 8 speed being the big worker, the 856 being the light working and a tractor I could take to shows(eventually!) and the suburban being a little tractor I can play around with and use around the yard and maybe eventually restore it. But we will see what comes up!! Tom So whats the History on this one Tom , where did you manage to find this rare beauty ? Hi Neil, I don't really know much about it as I dealt with the owners friend who knew nothing about these. He told me the owner has had it for ages, he used it to ride around his place but a couple of years ago it was plonked on a shed roof and then put in a barn for a bit. Tom. 70 #12 Posted July 13, 2013 Hi all, Sorry I haven't posted much on here in the last week I've been busy with other projects! I finally got round to clearing up my garage today and getting the suburban on the bench to start work. At the moment it only selects three gears, however when in a gear the drive pulley locks and when in the nuetral position the pulley spins the wheels which is not how it should be. At first it was all locked up however I filled it with diesel and it freed a lot of it up but obviously not everything so I have decided to split the transmission to see whats inside and hopefully fix whatever it is. I am currently waiting on a puller as I'm having trouble removing the wheel hubs. Other than that it seems pretty solid; the choke and throttle cables will need replacing, the hood patched up at the front and I'm going to make a slot hitch for it as I've got a little plough for it. I can't wait to get it running, it's a lovely little tractor! I mocked up the NOS engine today: The last picture shows my portable bench! It's an ex hospital bed, I put a jack on it so I can adjust the height of it and I can tilt it etc etc. It makes working on the horses a lot easier!! Thanks, Tom
Tom. 70 #13 Posted July 15, 2013 Hi all, I've spent a little more time working on the 400, it selects all gears now and the neutral works so I'm hoping I won't need to split the transmission. I had flushed it through and through with diesel and it seemed to do the trick as it was just all very stiff. The left axle/hub is fine and is not ceased at all however the right hand side is a bit stiff. I think it is a bearing in the axle which needs freeing up, it's slowly coming and shouldn't be long till it's fine to use. I've got to get some engine oil and some oil for the transmission and then I'm going to fit the engine and use it! I hope to eventually restore it but for now I just want to enjoy it. I really can't wait to get this up and running, hopefully it will be soon!! Tom
Tom. 70 #14 Posted July 20, 2013 Hi all, Just a small update.. After some encouragement from some forum members on here I have decided to split the transmission because this will be a keeper. I can then e-tank it and paint it and it also gives me a chance to replace any bearings or seals that need replacing not forgetting it will be a great learning curve for me!! After deciding I was going to open up the first challenge that I faced was getting the left hand side hub off, I really didn't think I was going to be able to do it. After going out and buying a gear puller I attempted to remove the hub and to my surprise after 5 minutes of tightening the puller as much as I dare and lightly hitting it with the air chisel she came off with no damage! I then took one side off and checked over the insides, from which didn't look in too bad condition although I don't really know much about transmissions. This is the first one I've taken apart and actually looked at! I have a thread in the transmissions section and am being guided through it, the perks of this forum!! I hope to by the end of my summer holiday I have it painted and running, quite optimistic but it's a challenge I look forward to. Then it's onto the 856, oh and then the C141!! I got some pictures as to what I'm up to now: Thanks, Tom
