Replacement engine for 1969 Commando V7

I have a 1969 Commando V7, model 1-4741, with the original Tecumseh V70 engine; 7hp, with an electric starter. Vertical shaft, 1" dia with 1/4" keyway. The shaft has a length of 2.5" from base of engine block. I am wanting to replace the engine. I am sure someone  has replaced this engine before. What engine is a good fit?

Certain models of briggs would work well.  I replaced a blown V60 with a 5HP briggs on an old ariens rider.  It felt like it was close in power. 

 

Did the rod blow thru the block?  If not they can be affordable to rebuild, and will run quite nice if you replace the carb.
