C-161 8-Speed Mowing

Hey guys you may have seen in my "Barn Find Update Update" thread that I brought back a nice C series. I'm planning on keeping this one and fully restoring it as my first real WH project. I have the snow blade that I believe will fit that tractor, but I was wondering what kind of mower decks I should be on the lookout for. I really like the idea of the pull behind, rear discharge type decks, or the front mount decks. What models of decks would fit that C series? And how do I tell when I do find one if it will fit? Thank you all again for all the help you've given me, you are a truly generous and kind group of people.

That is a tough question to answer in less than 1000 words. The 12 horse models used the same attachments as the 16hp and believe they had a 12hp every year up to 2002 so let's use it. From 1974-1977 they were C-120

1978-1979 they were C-121

1980-1984 the were C-125

1985-2001 they were 312-8

2002-2004 the were 315-8

and enter one of the above model names. They will all come up with a link to the attachment list for each on the right. The attachment model list shows the original deck, the deck that replaced the original and the deck available at the time the list was made. What they don't list are the deck models between the 2nd and last deck. Go through each model year to see how the model numbers changed.

 

If you post the model number of your tractor I can easily list the models that will fit showing the older and newer models.

So you aren't going to find any "pull behind" or "front mounted" decks for your C-161 (Least that is my understanding; Gary's links will give you the definitiive WH listing) -- Pull behinds were for Ds mostly and maybe for C-195; 18-Autos.......Big tractors with 3 point hitches -- Now you could always go get one of the aftermarket powered pull behinds -- There were front mounted mowers (mostly sickle bar stuff) for the earlier round hood tractors -- Your tractor is compatable with any deck for the beginning of the B and C years (except for decks used on vertical shaft Bs) thru the end of the classic 300/400/500 years -- I am not up on the rear discharge decks; there are several that would fit your tractor (I think there are 36" and 42" RDs from this time frame; but I could be all wrong) -- The side discharges will be 42" and 48" -- There is a 37" SD that needs to have a smaller front wheels used mostly on 310-8s (I have one of these) -- There is a 60" SD; but that one is specific for the 520-H; it is a beast and needs all 20 HP to run

 

Don't know what your aversion is to these under belly mounted mowers -- They are plentiful and pretty easy to find -- They will cut just about anything -- I been brush hogging with mine at my Dad's place for the past 20 years

Yeah I don't particularly have an aversion to them other than I use a diesel zero turn with a rear discharge deck and it works great. I saw a pic of someone brush hawging with a pull behind and got a wild hair that it was a good idea haha. Might have to look for a belly in the end as it looks.

There may be some deck model numbers here that Toro does not recognize. They have been reported by owners or found in the product service bulletins.
