Bluffhunter 37 #1 Posted July 1, 2013 Got my C-161 home over the weekend and replaced the key switch, and cleaned all of the electrical connections, but I am having a tough time finding the un-insulated ends that crimp on the end of the wires, that will fit into the hard plastic female connector, that fits onto the key switch. Every automotive parts supply place only carries the insulated ends. Would anyone have any ideas where I could find them ? I even though about Radio Shack but haven't called them yet. Thanks for your help on this ! Kyle
rmaynard 16,642 #2 Posted July 1, 2013 If you can't find them locally, and you aren't in a hurry, try eBay. You can get them from Hong Kong cheap, but it takes about a week to get here. That's where I got mine. http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-x-6-3mm-1-4-Width-Wire-Female-Spade-Terminal-Connectors-/230917665565?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35c3c3f31d

wallfish 18,671 #4 Posted July 1, 2013 Or you can order a new harness with the female switch connector. http://www.psep.biz/store/electrical_mower.htm I usually just skip the connector cover completely and connect the separate wires directly to the switch with the insulated solderless connectors
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,777 #5 Posted July 1, 2013 Your local GM dealer should have them if they have been around for a while. That is all they used for years. Garry
Bluffhunter 37 #6 Posted July 1, 2013 Good idea Garry !!! I will call them today, and only 20 miles away !!! Thanks again !!! Kyle
Bluffhunter 37 #7 Posted July 1, 2013 John, I could do that as well since I already have the insulated connectors, but wouldn't need the $5.50 female connector I ordered from Toro. I seriously thought about going that route though !!! Thanks John ! Kyle
JC 1965 1,534 #8 Posted July 1, 2013 Bob is right, If you don't have to have them right away. I ordered 100 for $6.50 and it took one week to get them. I could not find them anywhere in my area. Hope this helps.
Bluffhunter 37 #9 Posted July 1, 2013 Jerry, If your overstocked I would give ya $5.00 for 6 just in case I screw one up Kyle
Jeff-C175 7,207 #10 Posted July 1, 2013 Can't you just slice the insulator off the lug? I've done this before and still have all my fingers. BE CAREFUL if you try this! It's VERY easy to slip and slice a finger.
Bluffhunter 37 #11 Posted July 1, 2013 I actually tried this Jeff, and not only was it a pain ( not because I got my fingers ) but the newer ones with insulators didn't have the little tang that would lock it into the hard plastic female connector, unless I missed something. Thanks for the advise though ! Kyle

Save Old Iron 1,572 #13 Posted July 2, 2013 The uninsulated connectors you seek are "Packard 56 style". They do have the tang which locks them in place into Packard 56 style connectors, Insulated connectors have no need of the locking tang. Tin plated terminals are considered more appropriate for outdoor use. When brass oxidizes, resistance forms. When tin oxidizes, the tin oxide is also conductive. Tin plated terminals will command double the price of unplated brass connectors.
Bluffhunter 37 #14 Posted July 2, 2013 Thanks Save Old Iron. Makes sense and the originals on my tractor look like they were the tin plated type.
