KC9KAS 4,744 #1 Posted June 30, 2013 So I am searching CL and see this decent looking WH. There is not a phone number so I respond to the CL e-mail address. The WH is 3 1/2 hours away, but for what the price on the listing says will be well worth the trip...But no reply yet....I am sitting here waiting to travel as soon as I get a reply. Anyone else ever have this happen? I'm afraid it may be a hoax, or the wrong price is listed.
DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #2 Posted June 30, 2013 Good Luck but I would have waited before posting because now there's 10 guys in that area looking for the ad you just mentioned.
wallfish 18,154 #3 Posted June 30, 2013 Happened plenty of times. I know from selling on CL once in a while, I never received some replies people sent. One guy asked- Why do I keep ignoring his replies and then keep relisting the item. His replies never made it to my email for some reason. Some replies go into the spam folder too. ericj 1,579 #4 Posted June 30, 2013 thats one of the reasons why i only put my home phone # in and don't let people email me then there is no excuses. just pick up the phone and call me. but some people list something and then don't check email for a day or 2, or they may have someone on the way already eric j
KC9KAS 4,744 #5 Posted June 30, 2013 Good Luck but I would have waited before posting because now there's 10 guys in that area looking for the ad you just mentioned. Maybe, but I didn't say in what direction, and I drive much faster than the posted speed limit so 3 1/2 hours for me would probably be 4 hours for anyone else.
sjgriz4 0 #6 Posted June 30, 2013 I found one on CL yesterday in the Indy's section, a parts tractor but for $125 for a 417-8 with no deck is pretty tempting.

Jeff-C175 7,206 #8 Posted June 30, 2013 Yeah, I don't understand it myself... I've responded to several CL ads and I either get no reply (to email OR phone calls), or, I'll get a reply and then no response to anything further. Why would they post if they are going to not actively pursue the sale? I understand that the items may have been sold... so then be responsible and remove the f'in ad!
Rollerman 290 #9 Posted June 30, 2013 I think a lot of people list something, then pay the add no more attention once the item sells & just delete or ignore any email inquiries. Craigslist isn't perfect, but you do find some treasure every once in a while after wading through the no replies, or worse...a seller that sells an item why your in route & or raises the price when there is more interest.

There's a (or was) WH tiller about an hour from me for $100. I had e-mailed him and he said it was all complete in nice shape, selling it for a relative. I was on call so I couldn't come see it right away and explained that would be off the following week (The week of the show) I wanted it to bring to the show and sell cheap, still make money and offset my trip costs some. I emailed again and never hear a thing. No phone number either. The ad is still up
Jeff-C175 7,206 #11 Posted June 30, 2013 Exactly... my latest was that the guy had a plow and a blower... CHEAP! and not too far from home, maybe about a 45 minute drive. He said he no longer had the Horse, so the implements had to go. BUT, if they were P's OS, I would rather not make the drive... so I asked for a pic. He replied, sure, I'll get that right out to ya... Then NOTHING! NADA! I emailed again... no response. So, I gave up. Oh well.
Actonhorse 26 #12 Posted June 30, 2013 I had the same thing last fall. about 7:30 on a sunday morning my boy woke me up to show me an add on Kijiji for a C100 with snow blade and mower deck for $200.00. Around me that is an amazing deal so I told him to email the seller and tell him we'll take it. At that price the first guy to show the money usually gets it. We got no response. I emailed the guy to see if I could get a response... nothing. Then I called the number on the add and left a message explaining that my son had emailed him and was serious about taking it for the $200 dollars. Finally around 9:30 in the evening the guy calls and says that my son was the first to email so it is ours if we want it. We made arangements and picked it up the following week. Here is why sometimes you don't get any response - when we picked it up we got talking and he said that he was out for the day but wasn't getting any emails on his phone... When he got home he had over 40 messages on his home phone and there were over 30 emails in his spam folder! He called us because we were the first, deleted the add and didn't call anyone else back! Oh and by the way, he mentioned that there was one email before my son's and the guy offered him $100 for it..... That one just made him mad! He knew it was worth more and didn't want to be lowballed! Oh, and its been a great tractor, just needed a battery and we have been mowing with it all summer! DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #13 Posted June 30, 2013 For something that is severely undervalued I'll often offer more than the asking price to ensure I get it (especially if I'm not the first to respond). Most people will ask for a lower price but what's $10 or $20 more versus not getting it? I got a brand new Mantis tiller in a sealed box this way and it was still $200 less than what I could find online.
bean 85 #14 Posted June 30, 2013 I had an interesting experience a while back. there was a tractor listed for $200. it said it had a blown engine. it was a model that I had wanted for a while, so I called the guy and offered $150. we finally settled on $175. I said I would call and make arrangements to get it in the morning. called for 3 days before I finally got an answer. he said he couldn't take less than $200. I was kind of ticked at this point, because ; 1.we had an agreed price 2. he told me that every other offer he got was $100 3. worst of all, I passed up a nice c-100 screwing around with him. he said he needed to know right that minute if I wanted it for $200, so, of course, I said no. I checked cl the next day for something else, and there it was, listed for $250, along with "don't low-ball me, I know what it's worth". saw it in pieces months later on ebay, he sold it to a guy who parts them. Look at my web site and make an offer. I am in NW Indiana.
groundhog47 347 #16 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) Kinda same path, a seller has a 702 fro jun 04. after finally reaching the lister, he says sold, but it is still listed. Makes me wonder if it wasn't a joke except price $350 ($600 list) too high or family wanting to keep and intercepting seller calls so can keep, ha, what a way to do business. chip61 666 #17 Posted June 30, 2013 I found a 418-8 with deck for $500.00. Seller texted me she was out of town (this was Wed) and we could get together Sunday morning which worked fine for me. She texted me Friday night it was sold. I wish I had just told her I would pay the $500.00 because it was probably worth that or more even if it had issues (it looked pretty good in pics) Oh well, my mistake. Someone probably got a nice tractor!
