Sparky-(Admin) 23,277 #2 Posted June 25, 2013 Doesn't the cub motor have a shaft out both sides? One to drive the tractor and one for the cub PTO. Is the shaft (not on the flywheel side) long enough for a pulley/PTO setup like our WH uses? Mike............
Fordiesel69 271 #3 Posted June 25, 2013 1-1/8" diameter x 3.25" of there abouts is what you need on the PTO side. The other part sticking out from the flywheel is what you can take off. Now, if the cub had a shaker plate mount, and the wheel horse does also, then the swap should be easy. If the wheel horse does not, then the mount is going to be a tricky. Jeff-C175 7,206 #4 Posted June 25, 2013 I believe you can also use a 1" shaft motor by swapping to the smaller ID "bearing race" (sleeve) in the PTO assembly.
SousaKerry 503 #5 Posted June 25, 2013 My C-175 runs with an old Cub motor with no problems but it is a KT-17 II the biggest issue is the oil pan and centerline of the crank. Also some Kohlers were built without thrust bearings on the crank, about the only way to tell is to open them up and look. But this is only a requirement if you are running a manual PTO, electric and not running one at all do not need this.
953 nut 60,333 #6 Posted June 26, 2013 On most Kohlers the swap is best done by leaving your oil pan (engine base plate) in place and swap the rest of the engine. Be sure the pans are as deep as one another or the oil splash won't be right. Good luck.
Fordiesel69 271 #7 Posted June 26, 2013 All K301 singles use ball bearings and do NOT require additional thrust bearings. No need to check the inside of the K301 in question.
