Honda Repower Question

Recommended Posts

leeave96

Several years ago, I had a C-111 with a Briggs and Stratton engine on it.  On the exterior of the engine, Wheelhorse/Briggs put a metal plate against the engine and if I recall correctly a thrust bearing as the internals of the Briggs wouldn't handle the thrust of the PTO clutch against the crank shaft.

When repowering an Onan with a Honda engine, is there any such need for some kind of external plate/thrust bearing?

Just curious.

Thanks!

Bill

Depends on the crankshaft bearings.  Ball Bearings no problems, or Thrust bearing as used in Kohler KT Series 11 no problems.  Plain sleeve bearings with just a slight shoulder....Problem!!  (That is what the old B&S engines used and Koher did also in KT series 1 and 2 engines specd by John Deere and others.

I think most Hondas have ball bearings so no need...
