leeave96 490 #1 Posted June 24, 2013 Several years ago, I had a C-111 with a Briggs and Stratton engine on it. On the exterior of the engine, Wheelhorse/Briggs put a metal plate against the engine and if I recall correctly a thrust bearing as the internals of the Briggs wouldn't handle the thrust of the PTO clutch against the crank shaft. When repowering an Onan with a Honda engine, is there any such need for some kind of external plate/thrust bearing? Just curious. Thanks! Bill
pfrederi 18,711 #2 Posted June 25, 2013 Depends on the crankshaft bearings. Ball Bearings no problems, or Thrust bearing as used in Kohler KT Series 11 no problems. Plain sleeve bearings with just a slight shoulder....Problem!! (That is what the old B&S engines used and Koher did also in KT series 1 and 2 engines specd by John Deere and others. I think most Hondas have ball bearings so no need...
