520-8 Dozer

Recommended Posts

Well bit the bullet. Extended the 48" dozer frame so I can angle the blade without hitting the tires on the forward swept front axle. I've seen extension setups on eBay and here but, the price was to the highest bidder. My modification cost less than twenty bucks.

Formed two channels each; 12" long to fit ID of frame, 4-1/2" long to match existing frame.

I cut the frame forward of the angle lever toward the front. Stitch welded the 12" pieces into the frame using the 4-1/2" pieces for spacers. Angle doesn't match exactly (slight offset) but fit and worked great. The modified frame will work on my 400's too although will be forward 4-1/2" and so what?

The lever is in the right place, comfy enough.

I cut the 1/2" Ø angle rod actuator and welded in a piece of 4-1/2" x 1/2" Ø rod. Did this 'bout midway of the existing rod. Worked great.

Now I'll stop at Lowes or Home "Cheapo" and grab a piece of 1/8" Ø rod; easy enough to bend a couple of loops. This I've done before, no biggie.

Had a tri-axle dump of millings, spread most with my CAT D2. Then put the Stallion with the extended dozer frame to work, nice!

PS. Speakin' of millings. Did you hear 'bout the guy who walked into a bar with a piece of blacktop under his arm? Bartended asked, "Can I get you a beer?"

The patron with blacktop under his arm replied, "Sure. One for me and one for the road."

I built  my own 520 extension to fit my tractor which as the 520 front end.  I mounted a centre pin from the front attach a matic to minimize any deflection.  I also built the bracket to take weight.  It kept the front end from deflecting.  It worked well.
